You'll have to treat it as a job, you can sometime have fun sure but. Most of the time you'll have to draw or design what you have no interest in

Until you've reached a very high level, then you can pick what you want to and not to do

But yes, passion is a very good drive to getting solid pieces

Sometimes you just gotta raw dog it. Some clients are kind enough to give you very exact instructions on what they want, others just give you nothing and hope you do exactly what they invision in their mind (The annoying ones)

For me it's both money and the fact i enjoy seeing people happy with something i made
