They kinda make a decent pair for melee weapons that aren't so great at clearing hordes, like the knife or the duelling sword.

My melee can kill heavy targets and the braced autogun can be pulled out when needed to help clear trash hordes. I just joined a twins mission and it was pretty helpful for clearing poxwalkers during the gas phase of the fight.
