Flamers typically try and shoot you from about ~17m if they can. Hiding in smoke forces them to close to about ~4m to shoot.

Trappers try and shoot you from ~9m, smoke forces them to close to ~1-3m. Not a huge difference and it has its upsides and downsides.

I guess if you really don't want to deal with Hounds pouncing on you for a little while you can pop a smoke, but yeah using a smoke JUST for a Hound is probably a waste

For BoN, it's honestly mostly a gimmick--forcing a Beast to go from vomiting on you from ~10m to ~4m usually won't make much of a difference, but the option is there if you need it

Does Arbite have a tag talent skill like a Vets Focus Target

Was just in a game with an Arbi but he kept spam tagging enemies, it just was annoying at that point lmao

You double tap ping to have the mastiff target things directly for a pin or a pounce and retreat move for the heaviest enemies.

It can do this without it depending on keystones taken that influence the dog's behavior, but double-tap on everything that can be pinged is the main strategy. Even works when you're downed and trapped/pounced/grabbed/eaten.

There's also a keystone that gives a passive aura from the pov of the arbites that works similarly enough to disrupt destiny where killing the marked enemy gives bonus buffs and other things. But that has nothing to do with pinging beyond just making it easier to ping pingable targets like executioner stance highlights and focus target anything.
