Basically, daemons suck at staying in the physical world, so they use workarounds. One of those is the creation of a daemonhost, where a person is (almost always against their will) prepared with dark rituals to become a sort of meat glove that the daemon can slide into in order to do whatever it wants anywhere it wants. Obviously giving a daemon free reign to do anything it wishes is a terrible idea, so most people insane enough to create a DH will put various wards, chains and inhibitors on it to reduce the daemon's control and power.
