its just very hard to be classed as a successful video game when you have been in development for over 10 years

if you look at the digital deluxe stuff of the original plans for veilguard you can see it used to be alot more

then EA was like thats great and all but what if it was a multiplayer live service game people could play forever

you asked how some dwarfs can use magic, you need to know this for what im going to explain next to make sense

tldr the elves created the blight and lyrium

and freed the dwarves from the titans

elves did not create lyrium

lyrium is the titans blood

dwarfs are quite literally the "children of the stone" in the sense the titans made them see the sha brytol from the descent dlc in inquisition

titans being severed from their dreams (the fade) cause them and the dwarfs to lose all connection to it and start to slumber

these dreams would fester and become the blight which was experimented on by certain members of the elven pantheon to make the blight we see in the games that led to darkspawn grey wardens etc etc

this also finally closes the easiest connection of ever why did arch demons take the names of ancient elven gods, eg the thing about andruil going mad and becoming a dragon (this is something that has been guessed by players since origins)

so during the breach in inquisition certain titans started waking up due to the veil being weakened and some dwarfs started reconnecting with them that is what the entire descent dlc in inquisition is about and it is continued in hardings quest in veilguard

there is also some interesting notes like the fact the dwarfs somehow ended up with the lyrium dagger that solas used to make the titans slumber cause we find it embedded in the red lyrium idol in dragon age 2 within the ancient thaig all the dwarfs here had became rock wraiths that in dwarven legend are dwarfs who died and were rejected by the stone (the titans)
