IS-2 Mod.1944 was a well made tank that was designed to be a good heavy. It was a mobile artillery with good armor and a capable multipurpose gun. One of the very few properly used heavy tanks and it was unusually reliable and mobile for a heavy tank of the time

The 122mm is a very interesting phenomena, it's so far from usual tank philosophy yet it was absolutely the right choice for the tank

It was adapted from the A-19 field gun, which was used on the first SU-122's

But yeah, I love the IS-2 Mod.1944 because it was a rare example of russian competence. They actually made the vehicle they needed without bailing on the design halfway through (any russian battleship, MiG 1.44, Black Eagle and T-95)
