I have a theory: Arbites is an easy class to use that maybe makes players too powerful. And that's good for Fatshark because Fatshark wants players to be happy with the new class and not complaining that it's weak or useless.
But for their 2nd DLC class, maybe Fatshark will make a class that requires skill to use, for the hardcore players.

Ha, I won't keep dragging this out, but I do think that this is partly the reason why Darktide has different classes. Different people play differently, they have different playstyles.
It's similar to older (35+) soccer or hockey players - when their speed starts to go, they focus on other aspects, like their positioning, and even then, they're still much better than other people who never reached their level.
This is just something I'm curious about. Are videogames similar to real sports. Will I still be able to play Darktide when I'm 80, will I be able to adapt and pick a different playstyle, or not... Although the more I think about it, and I remember my granny... yeah, she definitely wouldn't have been able to play Darktide... hrm

There is definitely huge variations in population. Like, the games like DT are extremely confusing to me, everything moves at speeds I can't keep up with, tons of stuff happens on the screen which I can't react in time to, and to boot other people not having the problem, knowing exactly what to do, leave me behind too often. I only can play builds that dont' require precise actions, like no way I rely on any weapon that requires headshots as main, I'll be dying all the time, not killing anything. My best weapon is the one I can' just burst fire "in a general directon" of the target. Best melee weapon is the one you just can spam all the time, only controlling your distance to the foes.

This is very interesting. There probably is a way to balance this, based on what you said. Higher skill players could be given roles where they have to fight specific enemies that require high skill (fast button pushing), but other players could take on 'easier' roles (like a 'machine gunner') that are "easier" but still extremely useful (because there are too many enemies for the 'skilled' players to fight...
...I think this is kind of how Darktide works already... different roles seem to play these roles. But it is an interesting balance - how to make a game where skilled and unskilled players can both play with each other at the highest level and both appreciate that the other player is on their team

Yeah, things are complex. Because there's also human personalities to take in to account. If that situation happened to me, I might get killed and accept it as a bit of over-the-top random difficulty. But a different player with a different personality might ask for the difficulties in the game to be changed. (And if it happened to me multiple times, I would eventually also ask for it to be changed.) There are a lot of factors yeah, things aren't simple, just interesting heh

Don't think it will work, honestly, those are just two different audiences with very different expectations of "fun" and "interesting game design", and should be treated differently. I agree with the game design paradigm that says you have to design any game for an average player that will be playing it (i.e. even if it's a game for a general audience that likes extra challenge, like Dark Souls series, even within this audience there are its own 'casual, average players" and they are majority) - and then within it you build a separate game mode for "pro players" to play in. But it's not like you expect the "base game" to be a some kind of tutorial after which its players need to move to the pro players' sandbox (they most probable will never leave it), it must be a complete product full of content, with its own endgame content

and the pro players' sandbox needs to be designed specifically to their needs

So you have bugs, bots, and squids as the enemy factions, emphasis is on a mission and bases that are on a map that is semi open world

DRG is not exactly "family-friendly", in terms of challenge 🙂 But it's very different

in DRG, huge part of the challenge comes from the map, which is kinda randomly generated (in fact, there are common patterns experienced players know), and the fact you need to use terrain traversal kits of its 4 different classes to navigate the caverns

I have the game, but I've never actually played it... I just did the tutorial. So I just noticed that it was low-poly and so I kind of got a family-friendly vibe heh. Not sure if the actual gameplay feels more intense

Cultists and traitors are somewhat synonymous when it comes to chaos, though one can defect over to other xeno races like the Tau for example, though its quite rare. Renegades could also exist (not being for chaos nor Imperium), but they're seldom talked about from what I know.

You see the traitors' story in the new campaing's videos. They come as "home coming soldiers" who were sent to die for the "false emperor" in a pointless slaughter, but now are back home and plan to liberate it and make great again blah blah

Cultists focus on the esoteric aspect part of Chaos, whereas renegades are more military formations and are not necessarily always Chaos affiliated but usually are, and are in the case of the 6th; Among traitor organizations there are usually "spiritual leaders" guiding them down the path of Chaos, which seems to be the Admonition's leadership with Wolfer

The main difference is stratagems. Anything you need thats not carryable can be put in one of 4 stratagem slots, that have to be dialed in, thrown, and waited on until it deploys... This could be something as simple as a machine gun or calling down a 30 sec barrage that would make krieg proud
