The biggest difference in builds I noticed between newer players and people who can do high difficulties consistently is the priority on survival versus damage output. Newer and less skilled players put a premium on survival talents, whereas players who are more comfortable with the movement and rhythm of combat eschew many defensive options in favor of killing things faster. Bubble versus SG/Shriek, VoC vs ex stance, chorus versus shroudfield or FotF, etc.

What areas are you struggling with, from your perspective?

The most important thing to improving, in my opinion, is movement and positioning. That's what enables you to do damage and it's what keeps you alive. Everything else is secondary. If you position well and move properly, both in the sense of dodging and in the sense of safely kiting, you will have a much better go of things. Part of that is just knowing maps. Knowing where you can retreat and where enemies spawn. It's also having a sense for enemy attack timings and knowing what will stagger them, so you can decide to block, dodge, or slide.

Good movement also means you can spend fewer talent points on survival options and more on damage, and spend more time actually doing damage in-game.

I think walls are better than bubble. Or they would be, if you could trust them. Also higher skill than bubble. But I don't think they'll ever supplant bubble as the meta, same as nothing will replace VoC or Chorus as the meta. Safe, easy to use options that function well even if you use them badly.

Soulblaze is a blue fire DoT that comes from a couple talents in the psyker tree (Creeping Flames from Psyker Shriek or Perilous Combustion) and from the Voidblast Staff (with the fire blessing) and from the Inferno staff

It does more damage the more stacks you have on an enemy

It is very strong purely because psyker has a lot of ways to stack it in big areas and so with high density difficulty levels you can wipe an entire screen of enemies when done right. Carapace and bosses make that a bit more tricky but still doable

Yeah inferno will feel lack luster in low difficulty modes because of low enemy density. Also knowing positioning and how to Kite is important as with all staff builds

Fantasy, mostly, and some sci-fi. In addition to being a D&D DM for ~12+ years, with one campaign at 6(?) years of near-weekly sessions, I am (very slowly at this point) working on the third draft of a fantasy novel which takes place after a civil war in which the "evil" Godking crushed the "noble" rebellion. The primary PoV characters are, to oversimplify, a member of the rebellion who blames himself for its failure and a refugee who is trying to use the post-war chaos to escape from her past.

You go down to 1-2 wounds and just never die so long as you don't take extra corruption damage.

Headsploding is supposed to take you to the next wound, but it screws up and takes you to the next wound plus like 0.6 HP, which rounds up to 1. So you headsplode again and take no additional corruption damage. Crystalline Will keeps you upright on headsploding.

So you can headsplode forever. Crystalline Will also shortens the headsplosion time to like 0.4 seconds or summat
