Passive crit dodge is extremely worth it. I have an average of 30-35 crit rate on both melee and ranged with a rough uptime of 30% on EE. That’s 10+ minutes of ignoring ranged fire which only becomes more dense as you climb difficulties.

I have anticipation cause I use FGS and having it means I can dodge rager attacks no problem without having to worry about the phantom second hit that accompanies all their attacks.

The other tough part is LMB on inferno staff is finicky with range and targeting that by the time you get 1-2 stacks on the whole horde they will be dead by your soulblaze stacks

Yeah with bubble I get it. Venting shriek though you want to get peril high fast. You can potentially shriek every 6.5 seconds so it’s a race agains the clock

On EK you use staff too much to justify MM. Play aroud with soulstealer or quietude to figureout which is better for you. I find shriek is up often enough now that there's always something on fire; so that's opportunity for soulstealer to provide burst toughness gen but also passive gen as you need to move, block, kite, etc (in addition to souldrinker if you have that).

Quietude is nice since you can better control when you get toughness, BUT other toughness gen options give you a steady flow already with mettle change and souldrinker being more accessible.

EE is not needed (unless havoc or unsupressable shooters). It's nice to have tho. Will have to spam LMB to get more consistent EE procs, which is often a dps loss if not but for it.

ER on purg with bubble is a fine choice.

(I take one too many melee hits due to a misplay, and suddenly I need to start quelling in the middle of a horde to get low enough peril to spam VB rmbs...)

Because Quietude offers toughness gen that isn't dependent on combat, that means you are better able to babysit monsters. If you have KD or JaD and a force weapon, you can quell if stuck in a corner.

Quietude is this weird middle ground. I’d have to test how much time quelling and generating peril takes but I bet it’s at the high end 4% per second. Up to a point. Even if I shriek that’s like 20% instant which feels low to me compared to killing like 3 pox walkers with LMB or two with melee

Assail is usually taken with melee builds cause it benefits from the crit and cleave talents you already want. It also can be active while you swing your sword. BB with KF is a good option though too if you don’t like pulling out your blitz and want it on autopilot.
