How do I effectively use this weapon
The two flavors of VB are
flak + crit chance nexus + blazing spirit
or
cara + flak flurry + rending shockwave
The usual way is to full charge the RMB (circle on ground) and blast the feck out of things. The center has more damage and stronger stagger. If things don't die, they will get tossed around; so take note where enemies go. You can control where they go once you get the hang of it; this makes killing dogs and groups of shooters easier. Note that the fall on the floor kind of stagger makes enemies immune to stagger for a few seconds; can make crushers scary.
If you have melee frontliners who likely need to kill things to get toughness back then hit the back of the pack of enemies to send them to your teammates. If enemies are breaking through the front line, correct that. If there are shooters while this is happening, prioritize them.
If you have a vet or othe psyker trying to take care of ranged but are getting surrounded, focus on what is in melee range.
If everything is all good and no one needs toughness and you're basically just waiting for the horde to be killed, blast the feck out of it.

deflector though will let you deal with ranged enemies (excluding snipers) much easier
