Blazing Spirit on melee is sadly not good, because anything you light on fire will just die with the next hit from your sword anyway, if they don't die outright from the first hit.

Well if there is 1 enemy without any stacks then they will get 4 stacks. A maximum of 4 stacks from the enemy that dies will be spread to surrounding enemies, but it can't go higher than 4 either

If you want to spread fire everywhere use voidblast with Blazing Spirit or the inferno staff and just use the greatsword as a greatsword, much more fire, much more damage

Try it. Fire on the sword looks nice, but it doesn't stack high enough to actually deal any damage, because you kill things in 1 or 2 swings anyway, so it's kinda just for looking awesome
