Generally, Psyker doesn't perform that fantastically the better their teammates are. If your teammates are too good, they can starve you of the feedback loop of perilous combustion and psykinetics aura

Add in that the animation to pull the bolter up to aim is also quite long mid firefight, right on the edge of inadvisable to do when trying to pick off a specific target that will survive the single shot

You are asking two different things because those are two completely separate forms of attack. One is a staff attack and the other is a blitz

Agent is spamming secondary attack in that video. He doesn’t use smite

Staff. RMB from Agent Chao's build is a RMB surge / EK spam build. Full charges do more damage. Over time you'll learn when to use bolts and shorter charges. You also want to spam your ability often to set things on fire and clear smaller enemies. 85% peril gets you to the maz soulblaze stack from shriek + creeping flames.

It's a fast way to finish off an enemy. If a full charge doesn't take out most specials and the squishier elites, a bolt or two can take them out. Alternatively, an additional partial charge can do the job.

Surge / EK range is good but it can hit super far enemies. So bolts/ LMB will be needed for those. They also interrupt and suppress enemies.

soulblaze is the psyker specific damage over time effect. shown as enemies burning with blue/white fire. it stacks seperate from regular fire and scales in damage differently. anything that specifies Warp damage applies to soulblaze. BONUS FACT: the rending perk across from Empyric Resolve is bugged and only adds rending to soulblaze

@ornate hamlet the global cap for soulblaze is 31. weapons like the flame staff can only stack soulblaze up to the value listed in their burn stat. and staves with the blazing spirit blessing can only stack soulblaze upto a cap of 6. The talent Perilous Combustion and the creeping flames modification to venting shriek stack up to the global cap instead. so if you use your flame staff to get to say 14 stacks and then venting shriek at 85-100 peril you can increase that up to 20 stacks but your staff wont be able to maintain that by itself

Basically soulfire ramps up and caps damage at 31 stacks, this isnt really important at all because you have no way to actually track it. All you need to look at is your staff burn stat and then that helps you decide when you want to shriek for more soul fire stacks if you want to be optimal. None of this actually matters enough for you to care though unless you want to, the only thing that matters is shriek itself. It's just something to practice later for fun and marginally extra damage. If your staff says "15" on burn stat, that means you can hit 15 stacks of soulfire so whenever you feel you've hit that (this comes with practice), you would use extra sources to go beyond it. That's all
