there are areas with side paths, which generally are pox gas free. you are supposed to take these paths (they explicitly stated this when they released the modifier)

there are also areas where there's only one path and it has tox gas, here it's meant to split the group - you can run out of the gas by running ahead or back, if half go forward half go back you might very quickly be in a sticky situation

it fails to trigger completely even if you are looking straight at enemies

it just does it randomly

and this isn't a case of missing one enemy at the edge of the cone but just missing an entire horde that is in front of you that you are looking straight head-on
