I generally have my staff active most of the game anyways as well, but I still swap to my Melee if I need to deal with something a little close for comfort

Trama lets you fling them around like ragdolls
Surge literally freezes them in place and deals good ass damage
Purge staggers them and makes them take DoT
Psyker is the highest contender for never needing to touch melee at all

There isn't.

As it currently stands in the game, (and this is objective) chance based talents are going to be worth less than static talents unless you can stack a bunch of them up (see crit builds).

Kinetic flayer falls in that category.

There's no way to influence the chances it procs, and its got limitations on how often it can proc. Both of those things are bad, but together, they make the talent truly worthless.

When you see people play like they are literally dodge Jesus or whatever, do not think too hard on their build, because either A) what works for them won't work for you or B) they don't care what talents they're running because their core skills and weaponry are carrying them.

Psyker has some great options. As general recs: force swords (illisi and deimos), dueling swords (especially mk4), staves are good, guns are good too.

Choose your weapons then build a tree around them.

Unless you are trying to make a particular blitz or ability a large focus of your build.
