Smite does well for when a thicc wave of enemies gets close.

Me running bb without any sub talent and I even forget I have bb equipped since staff left click does a better job 
but usually you would just melee if the boss is focused on you, or you would just handle hordes/specials while the other classes fight the boss
I have BB on my blaze trauma for an easier time getting snipers, but the modifiers are not worth it on that build

Ok, it does, but the head has to be hit to fling things back or stagger them.
You can toss A LOT of the smaller guys back if you hit them in the head with staff bonk h1.

I had to turn off my mods. Wasn't completely sure it was them, but the crashing stopped after turned them off. I even checked to make sure they were up to date.

other good weapons, like devils claw 4, are still good

Deimos has more light attack damage, but it's pattern is not to everyone's preference.
Illisi is really good at horde clear. Deimos is more single target focused.
But I prefer mk4 duelling sword over deimos if I want to bring single target sword.
Attack patterns.
Illisi has diagonal/horizontal swings and primarily is made for handling a lot of enemies at once.
Deimos has a couple stab/overhead attacks that deal a lot of damage to weakspots, but its attack patterns on swarms of enemies are awkward.
I generally share this view - Deimos is generally very awkward (and DS4 is super overtuned IMO)
Nah, Deimos is good at horde clearing as well. Once you get use to the pattern you make hordes vanish.
I find mk4 sword with rampage can handle horde really well too.
Even with slaughterer deimos horde clear is just weird.
But... why? I can clear stuff with a force staff

I don't care about headshotting everything, I want to kill hordes quickly, Deimos doesn't kill them very quickly 
Illisi special also doesn't fall far when you need single target damage.
I kills singular targets quite quickly, but again, it all goes down to akward combos that DS4 has right at its fingertips (heavy attacks)
I can one shot mutants with Deimos and MkIV dueling, but you have some extra Stam with the Deimos.
That's something that I can mitigate with a stam curio just as well

The push on DS4 is better.
About 50% of the time the dueling sword push seems to not work.
Because it doesn't do a whole lot of stagger
It's just a quick tap to allow you to say, interrupt an incoming attack
So pretty useless on poxburster waves.
Trama staff is just to op bro
Poxbursters are not really an issue, DS4 has enough stagger power to knock them back
It's regular enemies that typically are not impressed by it
I've had it "stun/push" dash backwards and still get hit many times with dueling sword.
Not only does the trama staff kill in like 2 hits it knocks everything back
Deimos ep bb and purga. But next time I'm switching to illisi or mk4 sword. Deimos is just feelsbadman
Use Deimos light attacks, it's the same damage as heavy.
I also can't hit mutie heads as well as with mk4 sword.
You don't need to with Deimos. Charge it and stab.
I only use deimos specifically for the heavy 2.
Mk 4 is less fiddly and does a similar job (minus the general force sword things).

try to use assail for everything
try to have scriers up whenever you use the gun, more damage means less ammo used
and obvs it's a lot more fun with a survivalist vet
but you can make it work without one
That'll work on lower difficulty, but not so much on damnation.

Indeed, but we pulled back to a narrowed hallway to funnel them. That was my voidstrike cleave and the vet's plasma can make short work of em.
assail works well with voidstrike staff for carpace
For the warp charge penance you can probably use the One More/Many more try mod, choose some appropriate older map and just sit somewhere farming with bots

I like my surge to be about control, so I opt for smite + creeping flames + warp siphon.
Surge's weakness is aoe. Smite + creeping flames helps with that.
People also like assail with surge.
I don't know what to choose. Assail + empowered or Smite + Warp Charges
If you are going to lean on assail more, I'd do both assail modifiers and do EP.

It really depends. Get enough HP to not insta die to a sniper or a burster.

If you are prone to chip damage, more HP could be helpful.

The way I testes was tesdius af. I shot the LBM until crit and marked down the number of shots it took. I that that repeatedly with the riposte buff off then on. Then I compared my marks.
Riposte buff up has consistently increased crits.

As your main weapon, fire trauma needs nexus.
If you are doing support fire trauma as a CC tool or to enable your melee, some do blazing spirit + rending shockwave and get their fire procs from true aim.
You can True Aim to guarantee crits

Pair with Smite if you're terrified of being in melee range

Voidstrike got a small nerf. IDK if the blast radius was touched, but yes it's less damage now.
the damage isnt the issue, the problem is that i cant seem to hit weakspots with it as reliably as before
previously its pointing it at their head, now i have to aim slightly above it or it hits a non weakspot instead

it might be worth it if you run axe psyker, but force swords don't really run out of dodges, and dueling swords have like 5 dodges or so, but I can't really say i've run out of dodges with dueling swords either
Question on force sword: trying to use the push for the cliffhanger achievement, does it need to be the mk5 one? Cause just have mk4 so far and the push doesn't seem to be that far

except you didnt have coordination anymore because all your friends stopped playing because of the release state

Force sword push attack pushes one target strongly. The push pushes a lot of targets, but it doesn't fling them away.
Anything that makes things die faster benefits the team

I'm just looking at it through the lense of breakpoints, if it doesn't affect the number of attacks required to kill a target extra damage usually doesn't matter
It's based on your peril. The higher your peril, the harder Shriek pushes
also solely focusing on breakpoints in a game where you dont play perfect every time is kind of one sided
also you dont play in a vacuum
its hard to quanitify its usefulness unfortuantely, stuff doesn't seem to live long enough on my end for the dot to matter, most zealots or vets usually have one or two shot breakpoints on big targets and smaller guys it doesnt really kill them

an enemy being 2/3 health by the time something else from another player who hasnt even heard of breakpoints hits em and kills em helps either way
and for big groups of elites and such like the shotgunner hordes it does kill shit on its own

reminder that 6 stacks is enough to kill chaff and thats two specials or elites, and you kill so many elites and specials on even just normal damnation that I would argue its always worth

The thicker the area is with elites and specials, the more value you'll get out of PC. It keeps stacking. It can go past the 6 cap, unlike staves.
If you aren't killing the high value targets tho, like on lower difficulties, then it's meh. General rule is take it.
I will state once again mention that one time I shouted at a dead vet and got 90 kills just from 6 stacks

either I'm getting ks'd or my cast isn't fast enough

thats where I am very annoyed with the game balance around the difficulties, some things like PC scale immensely with the higher density of higher difficulties while other things fall off to a degree where there is reddit posts that show builds that are comically bad on anything past malice while builds discussed here basically only focus on the highest difficulties and might not be what makes sense to someone who is used to lower difficulties
my own blindspot is that I literally havent played difficulty 2 since the closed beta
like new characters on level 1 I just chucked into difficulty 3 or 4
I'm primarily playing on damnation but elite killer builds are so much mroe swift at it than myself

I snipe specials with BB/Assail right click, or voidstrike. I nuke clusters of shotgunners with trauma. I'll knife dive a backline gunner. Surge staff is good at focusing elites in hordes

Trauma is good at aoe, but it lack in single target. People will be sniping what you soften up.

i also prefer the flurry/rending over blazing because it doesn't rely on critical hits
and I like stacking brittle

Get on the laspistol vibe. You get the single target at amazing range, the reload speed of the gods, ammo capacity out the wazoo, and you can push with the special
And the damage is pretty decent
Build for Crit, take assail for hordes, shield or shriek for emergencies, and EP will stack easily with the pistol

cuz iin my limited experience it doesnt do much against hordes, it kills specials, on lower diffs at least
And the interesting thing about it is against flak armor, it has low damage but high crit change
And those crits are so good
Crits are going to be your main output with surge
And like what Ozzy said, warp flurry is something you can't pass up with it
Got a quad 80 trauma staff but it has only 56% warp resist
Get the perks that offer toughness regen on gain and quell then
I've been grinding out blessings so that I can have them if the meta changes
I'm too set in my ways, I'll most likely be sticking with what I got whatever the meta is

from what I understand rending is a buff and brittleness a debuff
i just don't know how bosses interact with brittleness

+toughness or +health on curios for psyker?
Depends.
A +health (all health adding up to 200+) + 1 sniper resist can get you sniper / burster survial break points.
If you have chip damage, health is your friend. If you like to trade toughness with shooters, thoughness is your friend.
If you gaurd gets broken a lot, + stamina can be nice.
Kinetic deflection also helps
but not all builds have room for it.
And you may not want your peril climbing due to KD
32 mobility. What's the dodge distance on that?

I run Toughness, Health and Stamina.
Toughness regenerates, but some things just ignore or delete it, so I don't like relying entirely on it. And the stamina is because I like tanking hordes when reviving.

So, trying for cliffhanger, was doing vigil station on the bridges at the finale, ramped up my peril to 100%, ran to the middle of the bridge full of poxwalkers to pop shriek, still only got 5 fall kills
