They do eat ammo, but that's part of it. A vet has to use ammo to do anything useful, where as a gunker can use other resources to conserve ammo when it's not necessary to maximize dps

I have my own playstyle that i have developed around the gun psyker build which works for me very well
If people are interested in Gunker (Psylot) gameplay, I released a live commented full Auric Damnation (Hi-Int STG) without ammo vet in team
Gameplay of an average Psylot Gunker Auric Damnation run with a Trauma Psyker and a couple ogryns. The build is obviously even more effective if you have an ammo aura veteran in the team, at that point you don't really need ammo pick ups at all.
There is great synergy between the talents and the weapons used here and it's all about weaving and ...

you can solo queue and do fine
you can do all of that, if you get teammates that don't ping, don't check corners etc, go chasing scripts without telling anyone it can ruin your whole run

It inherits the 125% damage buff from EP at no cost to stacks
when the old bug was fixed, the keystone got a new bug that the EP counts for the surge staff and you don't lose stacks

Until you get to high diff/auric, assail will carry you through an entire mission with next to no game knowledge
adding in the smite/surge 125% damage bug, and even auric damnation is a breeze
I just find it a challenge to try and outperform those types of players. Show them that the staff bug won't make you a better player
a good player with assail can carry a team pretty well (aside from boss kill)
I run Surge without the bug and I`m fine
don't know if ppl are screaming because of it thinking that I am because my region is muteland, nobody talks, half ot it doesn't ping monsters

Cause you can regen toughness with peril management, and the dome shield
So for me, I run low toughness builds to keep it at 100% easier
Its always mathematically better to get some amount of both toughness and health
Although I may need to do some testing cause I just realized it uses percentages for Regen not flat numbers
Whether you do 2xhp 1x tough or 2x tough 1x hp is your preference

But you get more out of splashing a bit of both
I find that wounds are also helpful on higher difficulties to stop random poxbursters from one shotting you

I closed the game some minutes ago because I joined a mission, the other psyker blows himself direct to casuality, then the games just unleash a Chaos spawn and 2 buwalks on a small area with a horde already on it. 
I rarely burn through all of my ammo as psyker unless I'm solo x3
i had a mission yesterday with another coked up second ammendment enjoyer, we had 5 monstrosities '2 DHs' and none of them lived longer than 15 seconds

nice thing about assail is other than a lever to crank peril and a convenience for chaff and maintaining DD, you can also lean on it a little bit if it's a dry ammo round thanks to either ammo pickup spawns or dickhead teammates

our characters are slated for execution, we are getting the time extended by working with the inquisitors, we will probably end up getting executed eventually anyway

Deimos is decent enough for horde clear if you have the horde dance down
I've also been thinking shield instead of scriers even for melee/gun pysker just because of how great it is on high shooter concentration missions, but i dont know the best way to spec into it

up to you, but deflector feels so good. unstable power is a very reliable buff but it depends on your playstyle

Because of Warhammer is grimdark land, there is multiple options, most of them sucks, one is "good" by universe standards

you get neofighters that fail one training shot, end up as servitor, or blow up the whole team, gets a comendation for a successful mission... which the next day can be turned into a servitor freecare because you wated potential bodies 
if you didn't want to make every new class a prisoner there are a good number if ways a space marine neophyte could end up an imperial acolyte
that jail where we are at the start... that isn't a trial jail, that is already "next step, is execution/turned into servidor/ torture for information" and my favorite "yes"

Any suggestions on completing the Warp Battery Penances? I know it has to be 5 minutes with max charges in total, ability clears charges and has to be elite or specialist kills with currently my highest has been 283 but just can't seem to do it
