the game is certainly well put together in a gameworld fit and finish sense

the sheer number of the myriad objects needed to make up a medieval town are pretty much all present

and interact like a bethesda game would

inv capacity is no man's sky, not skyrim, item management is number capped not weight capped

which personally I think is lazy and destroys the suspension of disbelief but that's another tangent

food and drinks are potions, not hunger/thirst reducers, and better food requires a greater number of the same base inputs vs lower tiers

for more restoration/timed buffs

that sets up the annoying situation where the inputs on a crafted item are more expensive than the item you're refining or crafting, which makes my inner economist just seethe

reputation and crime is a new mix, borrows heavily from rockstar and is a love letter to red dead 2 police chases

for legal purposes my lawyers have told me that hypothetically

you could wait until a procedural npc was opening up the door to their home, and tackle them into their own home while the door's open

then murder them in cold blood and mostly get away with it

so that's an instant 10/10 from me

oh and the story sucks

like, impressively sucks

it might as well not even be there because in so many ways it just isn't

just accept the first-hour tutorial railroading and turn your brain off to what happens, it's like they put together something cohesive for the tech demo then something else for the release hype train and then chopped those up into nonsequential pieces and peppered them through the first two hours of gameplay at jarring intervals

oh and just like no man's sky's system for inventory capacity upgrading, there's a dedicated gameplay loop in crimson desert to be able to carry more unique itemstacks

and it's waving vaguely helping the townspeople of the land

merchants sell one or two upgrade token things when you first find em, and npcs of middle to high importance like vendors will also have one-off request quests that hand out capacity-slot-number-things-go-up things

so there's no 'bags' or 'backpacks' or equippable equipment anything in that regard

but thankfully your personal storage universal vault has 250 slots whereas you start the game with 50 yourself and you're railroaded straight into your first vault location almost immediately, red dead 2 campsite style

looting aftert combat's also like RDR2, corpses become one-use hold and loot resource nodes and any cash/kit/meat/ammo/etc is all gathered at once and slotted into your pockets if needed

like helldivers 2

the game did implement a pretty unique new spin on part of character advancement too, a lot of things going on in the game world will give you experience in something or trigger the unlock of something new your character can do, all by observing somebody else do it first
