On higher difficulties FotF's gap closing potential is diminished because you are often being non-stop assaulted by the crowd and have no gaps to close. And if you have some gap to close, it's often almost as fast and easy to do so using slides (you can even charge heavy attacks while sliding with practice; or prepare stab attack with the RB) - because it's rather short gap.

And in terms of damage output alone, I doubt FotF is that much better than what martyrdom gives you
