I don't see how backwards era is the one which also happened to have the most dedicated fans, whether that be invested in the community or simply in their product range.
30k era and early 40k was rough around the edges and that's what made it good. It was more of a community than it is now, where people have split up on the genre more than ever, as a result of major changes without much explanation and as the result of GW becoming a corporate demon on prices and product quality.
I think takes like these come from a place of trying to support their diversity, in which case you'd be just as biased as i am, in that sense. Of course reactions will be extreme when you're dealing with a fantasy like warhammer. But i am happy for you if you do like the present progression of the fantasy itself. Plus i don't get your example, things like these didn't matter because people did what they wanted to and the genre was not politically charged as it is now. I won't get into it though because discussing skin colour just seems weird
