We could go into how AI has and is already utilized by world governments to just sustain injustice via military operations, law enforcement, intelligence agencies.

Palantir lore is just right there, with the same and compounding problems that are all interconnected.

Ai is straight up being utilized to justify cutting labor for companies that just don't want to pay people for their work. There's even the psychosocial consequences of its implementation still being talked about by people with greater expertise than one could find in one zealot chat on the topic.

There was even a case where the damn thing just used someone else's real credentials, lied about them to pass itself off as a legitimate psychologist, performed what would be in any other case flagrant malpractice by encouraging their suicide and the poor kid was eventually found dead by their mother.

I'd actually love to see where that's coming from. I got hella gripes with how AI is getting implemented into the medical field. There truly can be helpful uses, but with the way things are going, something like medicine cannot afford to be encroached on.

Like that shit is getting thrown in as a way to replace medical scribes. Which, to be very honest, is an already borked sort of pipeline created and exploited by hiring firms that got some seriously fucked up practices that play a very comfortable role in how people can end up being barred from better care.

In a perfect world, I’d agree. But the medical field (not just in the U.S.) has a lot of problems that this is just exposing. Everyone has become so specialized that if your symptoms don’t perfectly fit a textbook scenario you’re either going to get dismissed out of hand or bounced to another specialist. Meanwhile, no one is taking a holistic look and connecting dots between seemingly disparate symptoms. Autoimmune disorders are particularly vulnerable to this kind of (lack of) treatment, but neurological disorders and really anything that isn’t throwing off something that is easily quantifiable or throwing up unusual lab values and… well, good luck. You’re on your own.

Again. Please, please do not misconstrue what I’m saying:

I am not touting AI as some kind of panacea or silver bullet for any problem—social, medical, or otherwise.

I am simply saying “It has merits.”

I think we, not just as a society but as a species, are dropping the ball on sifting those merits from the very real problems it either creates or exacerbates.
