"Esports" is more of a corporate branding apparatus than competitive games. With the added consequences and systemic abuses to show for it. People getting unpaid, people getting priced out from officially backed tournaments that wouldn't have existed without the development of the preceeding independent scenes that could then get blacklisted and even legally shut down, scores of internal scandal cover ups with disgusting behavior left unchecked, design decisions that have more to do with facilitating a more spectactor-friendly experience at the cost of a more robust experience by the people actually playing the game, shady money deals with gross sponsors, the list goes on.

Plenty of real reasons to have beef/salt with esports as an industry. It's pretty gross.
