Dmg is similar between marks, but Mk2 as a surprising amount of CC and stagger with sweeping heavies. Once you learn the Mk2 moveset which is a bit obtuse and nonintuitive at first you'll figure out how to lead with sweeping or strikedown and switch between attach chains for different enemies/situations. MkX as far as I recall (it's been a while since I used it) doesnt have the same versatility

Yeah, I usually have games where the setting is independent of dnd worlds these days with worldbuilding baked in.

There was a whole angle about how there was a local human supremacist gang that was extorting non-humans in the same ghettos they were forced to live in too for one faction amongst many in one game we had. But in another district, the church had their actual unspoken alignment with human supremacists despite having fake disgust over their abject racism and exploitation of fellow poorer people via their illegal dealings that the church help front. We had characters from the city proper to neighboring territories, nomads, etc.

Players were allowed to just kind of morph their characters around things because all of us were already in that sort of heads pace of creativity.

The last ttrpg I played where we were working with the game's setting directly was blades in the dark. But I felt like its systems worked in a way that bridged what 5e vanilla often couldn't for me with my tastes as they are now.

We would come up with a general concept sure, but i often wouldn’t even choose race/class until I had the actual character concept created. Like what story do you wanna tell, what struggles do they have, why are they doing what they are doing, etc

Tbh Call of Cthulu was one of my first rpgs and they have entire sections of PC building dedicated to forming who you are as a person in the world and setting up your knives and plothooks and interconnecting your characters in ways that matter and it's always stuck with me. There's nothing that disheartens me more when I start a dnd game and everyone gets quiet and doesnt talk to eachother on character creation like its an individual assignment lmao.

Ironhelm is great for horde clear because the charged attack has cleave, it doesn’t bounce off the first enemy it hits. Not sure how it handles mixed hordes but I know it certainly doesn’t excel at it. Crucis is a bit of an everything stick. The charged attack is fantastic for elite deletion and boss damage, and the uncharged heavy is passable for dealing with hordes, but accept that you’re going to be needing to have a plan for keeping room when dealing with rager and carapace spam

I'd say it's a spectrum of influence because that indulgence can also be paired with cooperative adherence to settings and all that. Whether or not the person individually can do it and collectively the players involved can enrich that is always subject to change.

I think that narrative focus and character stakes are part of what makes that kind of collective storytelling fun and engaging. There can even be room for dms and players to actually have their characters and the story challenge those players in a way that make inspire them to be much more interesting with how they role play without even shitting on them.
