With a subscription it makes sense to me with an MMO because they're setup to have crazy amounts of content. Often it's an init purchace and then a subscription afterwards, if you're actively playing the game you can sustain the subscription. It's a bit loose but I generally follow a $1 = 1 hour of enjoyment with games for worth and that usually works out for subscriptions. But cosmetics that you can buy with real money just feel like an appeal to desires of vanity and imo undercut the value of earnable stuff, you create an environment where the buyable stuff needs to look fire or else why would someone buy it. I personally don't mind it that much but I find subscriptions more reasonable than cosmetic mtx as such
