I can, actually! So it was changed to deal damage differently between armoured and unarmoured types.

Against unarmoured types (manic/infested/etc) it deals a buncha damage all evenly spread, so you get your damage instantly. For armoured, it deals little damage until the very end, where it deals a boatload of damage.

And now you're less bound to get stuck mid-animation while the enemy is already dead
