Relic Blade is a popular pick, it's an all-round generalist that while activated is absurdly strong into any target and into crowds. Its downside is slightly more advanced combos than average and it has a heat mechanic to monitor. Combat Axe and Heavy Sword are classics due to BM/Deathblow. Dueling Sword is highly overtuned into single target.

If you want a similar vibe, try out the Mk III Eviscerator or Crusher for melee. Vigilant Autoguns are pretty fun, Mk VII in particular.

I've fallen in love with the crusher.
I think it even does better crowd control than the relic sword (light chains are horizontal sweeps for the most part)
And anytime you have a carapace armor/Ellie enemy, it's electrical charge special attack does the job immediately. Plus it's special attack (electrical charge) requires no micromanagement unlike The relic sword's power sword ability
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure if you're not as lazy as me, and you don't mind micromanagement (or you're highly autistic) The relic sword is probably Superior.

Defences most notably handles dodge speed/distance, also PA cost but it's minor. Power Output handles the special attack AoE size most notably, also suppression and a minor damage difference on the AoE. Up to preference.

It has a significant sensitivity multiplier while using the ult. You can brute force it to look around though, it's not a smooth thing though.

The amount of effort it takes to play it right doesn't outweigh the benefits, which shouldn't be the case. However, the Assault class can one shot most of the enemies on hardest difficulty, it is already very strong against Tyranids, yet against Chaos it struggles a lot. So we think that the problem isn't in the Assault kit itself, it's the Chaos army composition and that will be changed soon.
The buffs will make Assault better and more fun to play, but the core problem will be addressed in the next content patch.
