Relic blades only weakness is mobility, so I like having a weapon with very high mobility. That leaves me choices up to autopistol, laspistol, revolver, or bolt pistol.
Seeing as I deal with armor very well, I don't need revolver or bolt pistol.
Autopistol isn't necessary because it's basically a rager annihilation device, and I've got tknives.

I see a lot of people loving 9. I’ve used it a lot. While I find it’s better at horde clear, the 7 and 6 seem to dispatch enemies faster, especially ragers/elites and what not.
Am I missing a specific attack pattern on the 9 that makes it shine more than the others?

Flicking the overhead can help you hit more targets with it, other than that it's mainly that people like the horizontal swings for horde clear
I prefer mk7 myself but it doesn't appear to be a popular choice

I find the largest issue with any of the chain weapons is trying to weave revs in between mixed hordes and hoping you land a hit on what you actually are trying to kill

Plus surgerical doesn't take a second to reach 100% it takes a few seconds.
You can notice it immediately when you play with numericui
and it's not just the UI counting, it's the rate of which its rising. Which is disappointing to be honest.
You'll want to aim for a few seconds before firing, which is not ideal in high intensity scenarios.
If you want a guranteed crit at least.

Tbh, this is one of the few weapons where I feel any mark is good.
6 and 7 are literally the same attack pattern just reversed. They start with horizontal slashes for their heavy attack, which is amazing at taking out densely packed groups of elites or ragers. Takes practice to get used to the timing but it’s great.
9 opens with a heavy overhead. It’s really good against single targets, and as was said, the special attack is wonderful as well.
It handles hordes great as well, with heavy spam. It’ll start with the overhead, then chain into horizontal slashes.
Personally, I pick MK7. The opening horizontal is just too good to pass up. Nothing feels better than charging/heavy swing into packed enemies and seeing 4-5 ragers or elites go down in one hit

Dump defences, blessings are Headtaker and Deathblow (non negotiable BiS), perks are elites and flak or flakiac

The 9 has great dodges (5 in total) and benefits from the dodge reset less than most weapons with worse dodges or less dodges, like the Crusher or THammer
It benefits from the damage boost IJ gives though making you do a lot of consistent damage
Riskier build that I use without twbs; twbs isnt necessary so much for the hs 9 due to its fast heavy swing speed - if you find yourself overwhelmed just back dodge or spam pushes/hold block till your dodges are back to get back in your loop
Bistol w Punc to be effectively a tknife to one tap specialists
This is what i use
The crit damage the hs 9 does is fairly significant and it swings fast, with the 20% crit you get from zeal base and piety youll be fine proccing IoD constantly
You need to yhe charge, fury of the faithful, to mitigate the biggest weakness of the heavy swords - dogshit armor pen for unyielding and carapace
Charge gives you maximum uptime for said charge, which helps you maintain pressure and eliminate the more important targets easier

Deathblow extends your current target's damage to the next and won't consume hitmass for that target if you get a weakspot kill. So it'll effectively turn something with a cleave damage distribution of 300 170 120 50 50 50 to 300 300 300 300 170 120 50 50 50.
If you hit breakpoints it gets even more nutty once you start 1 shotting elites, as you can fill the scoreboard with 2 heavies.

And it's one attack - you wont be screen wiping with cdr, you still have to wait 10 seconds for a full charge to come back
It rewards aggressive play with more opportunities to be aggressive
You still have to respect armored enemies since a fotf headshot wont instantly kill a crusher with everything stacked

I think this is just a personal issue you might have with being unfamiliar with the game - if you find yourself dying a lot or not treating the enemies with the respect they deserve, or aren't comfortable with ceaseless aggression, then a more defensive, passive playstyle would be better suited, yes
If you're comfortable with enemy movements and sound ques I'd suggest playing the FotF/IoD Stallie build so you can be more aggressive
If you aren't quite there yet, and there's nothing wrong with that, playing more passively, such as with IJ, would be better I suppose
You can pay aggressively or passively with either
Piety just requires you to at least be close to the frontlines so you can get Fury to proc
IJ you need to be near enemies that proc your dodge gives you a stack

I play aggresive with IJ, the cpr cdr on charge just acts as a call to the void and can make you autopilot
It also gives you so much toughness gen you can get away playing sloppy and not improving
I used to only play piety charge spam but swapped to IJ and became a better player instantly, and improved significantly faster than I was using Piety
