Oh yeah RT isn’t hard on the first two difficulties (normal and daring)
There are occasional difficult fights (act 3 final boss being the biggest example) but after act 3 they mostly go away because you are actually too strong, and even the hard fights can just be totally stat checked with good building
It is very easy to become a totally unkillable monstrosity who 1 turns every encounter

Rampage + Savage Sweep/Wrath for regular use,
Shred + Perfect Strike when running a crit build, though you can still run SS/Wrath.
Evis is a generalist but it's somewhat of a 'jack of all trades master of none' weapon. It's best at Unyielding damage, especially on the Mk XV. Can really take any weapon with it, usually an anti-shooter/special weapon of some kind.

If you're really confident, you can lower your health a bit to get some stacks. But generally you want to use Martyrdom as a comeback mechanic/safety net. If you take stuff like Bleed for the Emperor, you'll effectively have 3 health curios of extra effective health as well, and until death/holy revenant can allow you to take an overhead or just some bad hits and output a lot of Martyrdom stacks of damage.
I personally get 3 stacks of Martyrdom from the first horde and then just try to ride it out, and being the last to take medicae. Results in chip damage slowly giving me Martyr stacks throughout the mission.

Popping piety requires a decent number of kills, but every kill within a certain distance refreshes it, even if you aren't the one that kills the enemy.

My question comes from hearing that evisc does mondo captain damage, which conflicts with the damage "cap" before shield recharge, and my understanding of how the "multi-hit" evisc attack would interact with that.

mm, with buffs up it's not really that bad. If your team has literally anyone who can solo a horde, it's immediately not an issue. You can also take something like a scattershot/man-stopper Accatran Shotgun or a Flamer to compensate if it's needed.
