So like, we have the settings for cone explosions and the 500kg never used them. Back in the day raycasts could be blocked by enemies in the outer radius of an explosion, so if you had a bunch of enemies near where the explosion landed you'd just lose all of the raycasts to those enemies and it wouldn't hit anything behind them. This has since changed to be a bit more nuanced, each enemy hitbox has a setting called "Explosion Verification Mode" that handles it. Main takeaway is that 500kg is no more of a cone than any other spherical explosion.
