With IJ, you can easily handle a pack of maulers or crushers.
Otherwise you can handle maulers with plenty of ranged options.
I like using laspistol with hammer, and I can drop a mauler with mk2 in like 8 or so shots.
For reference, my laspistol uses flak + maniac, dumdum + ghost.
Laspistol also just gives you massive reposition potential because you move like greased lightning with it out.
Clutching actually becomes possible with it lol.

Laspistol is pretty similar to zarona. You won't oneshot things, but you'll 2 shot them, and have plenty of spammability into annoying groups of enemies. Ragers die in 3-4 headshots, maulers die in 8 or so bodyshots, etc.
The access to ghost is also huge.

use the special attack when fighting bulwarks and crushers to apply stacks of stagger for skullcrusher
you can potentially kill them in like two hits
h1 l1 for single target, h2 l2 for hordes
run IJ with it, you CAN run piety with the peculiar finesse multipliers on the push attack
iirc it's the only one with any multipliers like atha said
it can do some wacky stuff
it does good armor damage so u don't rlly need piety for chastise purposes
