If you're new to dsword left side is a good call I would say, it handles a little differently than other melee weapons in that it's very fast and has almost no stamina. It's great for getting in a few pokes and backing up but the low stamina can get you punished if your block is broken, which left side will help with

If you're confident you won't ever get hit then right side is the best for sure

Mk2 I don't remember the heavy patterns but I do know it has similar lights to mk5 and all of them can use the special right after the heavy for quick follow up stab that doesn't do quite as much damage as heavy 1 stabs but does come out faster and can stagger even large targets. I've seen mk 2 loop heavy 1 and special to great effect this way
