Fishing is immensely important outside of modded content because you want buffs like endurance and lifeforce.

Plus your accessories are what makes or breaks your performance. Most endgame stuff drop boot accessories in favor of a damage accessory, so your only mobility is wings and a mount.

It's not a super hard game, you just gotta prepare more stuff to pull it off.

As an example the META in Mordhau would be to place BALLISTAS inside walls, but that's also the best strat to get into the banned any % run, so instead it's grabbing waxe bloodlust and farming new players
