no you can literally use any weapon and it will do just fine
ij gives you up to 15 stacks just for moving around/dodging, each stack gives 1% melee and ranged attack speed and 1% attack damage when you use them, you use up the stacks when you hit something and it lasts like 6 seconds which is enough time to move like 2 inches to the left and get 15 more stacks
you do not need to play a particular way or use a particular weapon to do good with ij its just a solid keystone

Well... on heresy with 3 marty stacks, the +20% unyielding/invested talent, 2 5% melee damage nodes from the talent tree, 25% unyielding on the thammer, t4 thrust, and 2 chastises... you can 2 shot at least a chaos spawn, daemonhost, burgle, and assassination boss... without any sustained assault, slaughterer, disdain, or headtaker stacks

- The Ironhelm is a much better generalist weapon and its only cost for this utility is boss damage and that you need to memorize a couple of important breakpoints to be just as effective as a crucis. The moveset is actually better than it is bad when you know how and when to use it.
