You always take half damage on dex saves vs spells if you fail, and you take none if you succeed.

But the TLDR is all melee weapons have a little property like gaining advantage on next attack, dealing ability modifier damage always, pushing targets, or hitting multiple. However, you need a class feature (available on barbs, fighters, monks (?), and rangers, which only gives mastery on 2-3 weapons to actually use this

I have a edited homebrew version of the game (very heavy)
Material components are needed based on the casters equipped spell tome, spell tomes can be added to but it's expensive so early game casters have tomes or a few tomes that have set spells.
All tomes have a special cantrip but that also has an ammo economy to it.
Rangers allow for an easy way to refill resources as they can make arrows and find materials for the casters.
ALSO suprise around stuff they can mess around with thier preferred terrain and other stuff.

You're going to struggle against carapace packs no matter what. Mk15 evisc is one of the best at dealing with them, actually. If you run bloodthirsty t4 you can chain crusher kills back to back without needing to chastise or wait out the full rev.
