As I go to pick them up another chaos spawn comes out of nowhere, leaps at me, I miss the dodge on the grab (almost full hp) and a flamer walks up and unloads on me as im eating and 100-0's me

Your whole mindset is completely wrong as a zealot. You speedrun and win, you make your team immortal or you are just completely useless and thats just the way it is. There's your only 3 options.
every time u kill a mob another one will spawn, if you leave enough alive there wont be any more mobs spawning. There is a cap to how many mobs can be alive and 95% of all mobs are slower than you and the other 5% can be singled out and outplayed. Now if u combine this fact with not a SINGLE map requires you to kill ANYTHING. do you still think killing is good?
I dont kill anything, finish the objective and collect my experience, its much more efficient.
