like combat right? melee characters gain advantage every time they hit someone, stacking 6 times. each stack is just a flat +10 to hit and parry, but you lose it all if you take a hit (and in some cases the enemy gains all your stacks) making melee brawls very swingy

ranged characters cannot gain advantage from hitting they have to use other methods, and most ranged attacks requires you make reload checks

magic requires multiple turns to cast a spell, and most of the spells aren't particularly good until late in the game once you have somehow saved up the money to advance your class

• Its base damage is shit, so people who just spam it without giving a rat's ass about EP are actively tanking their damage
• Its cleave and stun are massive, so it's oppressively strong for crowd control and honestly that is unnecessary most of the game
• When you actually add damage to it, the cleave helps push the damage up and kills many small enemies in the horde
• Paired with shriek, it deals a large amount of damage due to its cleave, but... shriek itself already kills every poxwalker and groaner it hits, so smite is just there to make it go faster I guess?
• The whole thing teaches people awful habits about spamming it for "safety", because apparently slowing the game to a crawl to take to years to kill the actually important enemies is necessary to those people
