3. fail to cope with their lack of skill because their ego is too giant, so they stay in heresy forever

It's also a case of Scourge being 0-2 points depending on the build vs. FT or Lacerate being 1/2 of your blessings. Anyway, to better explain exotics, there are "world drops" and quest exotics. Quest exotics, obviously, can only be gotten from quests, and world drops can be dropped anywhere. Once an exotic is unlocked, world drops should be able to drop it (unless they changed that recently). Some exotics are also locked behind legend lost sectors, little mini dungeon esque areas that you have to clear for a chance of getting an exotic drop.

Very useful legend lost sector exotics that come to mind are things like the Cuirass of the Falling Star and Gyrfalcon's Hauberk.

Once you get those to drop, they can appear in the world drop pool.

As for filling out your exotic page, go find wherever Xur is now, then go buy an exotic engram off him for 97 legendary shards.

You can buy 1 per week for shards and it will always drop an exotic you don't have.

If you've had every possible world drop exhausted, he will drop exotics randomly.

This is a great tool, but it's not worth using in a solo play, unless you go for penances.
Most of the time you'l get bad teammates and Relic won't help them either way, so you'l just be gimping yourself by losing amazing offensive/defensive/utility things in the form of Chastise or Stealth.

It's fun to push bosses off the ledge though.
