first thing to know is that the blue bar above your health is your toughness, and is very important for staying alive
it is like an overshield for your health when enemys shoot at you, but the same is not true for enemys meleeing you
for melee, if something hits you, it will deal full damage to your toughness, and the percentage of toughness you had missing is what percent of that attack also is dealt to your health, so its always good to make sure you keep it topped off for when you do inevitably do get hit, since if you have 0% toughness missing, youll take no damage to your health for that attack

Toughness is regenerated naturally in 2 ways, either by sticking close to your team (there should be a shield icon and count buff at the bottom of the screen, this is how many people you are in "coherency" with), or by getting melee kills. as you level up, you get more access to way to regenerate toughness, zealot can get one where they get 15% back when dodging an attack for example.

speaking of dodging, it is absolutely required you learn how to start dodging, as enemies when they start attacking you will lock on to you, and dodging will break that lock. it really helps if you take the time to create a sort of "dance" when in melee combat, where you dodge every 2-3 seconds, and push every now and again, and just keep that rhythm up, itll do wonders.

this game is also heavily dependant on audio, theres audio cues for just about everything. every special type of enemy will have a distinct sound they make when they spawn, so its easy to know whats headed your way, and whats been killed (via characters calling out that its dead). there are also audio cues for when you are about to be hit by something that is not within your field of view, a different one for a melee attack and ranged attack, so keep an ear out for the "woooshes" so you can start reacting to them when they happen

i do multiple "perfect parries" in this, and one time i purposefully put it up too early

missing the window will obliterate your stamina, leaving you stam break staggered, but you will NOT take any damage from the overhead like you would when blocking

I've been thinking an ogryn sized chainfist would flip the script on the activation process

the longer you charge and hold left mouse, the longer the chain will spin for

freeing up alternate attack to be part of the combo chain

that being the broken posture has to be followed through with a charged heavy
but this time you can actually see the bar like sekiro, but it doesnt give you a crit or anything, it just gives you a large window to smack em for free
