To be fair Flak was just a standard at the time. Besides, it lets you deal with hordes without having to activate ALL THE TIME. So you can hit faster instead of having to charge first.
In any case.
I just prefer Flak because sometimes charging makes you take more damage than necessary if there's too much on you.
and for me, that's frequent since I'm the definition of charge into the horde and think about the consequences later.

In any case, here's my braced autogun. The main thing you really have to do is just attack Crushers at close range
and watch it snowball
especially if you kill a couple smaller enemies first (there's usually multiple near Crushers anyway.)
so you can shred a bunch of crushers off that.
but base braced with chastise I can consistently kill like two in one.
fully buffed up? I can kill a ton.

I've killed like 4 or 5 in one chastise before with max buffs. Then again that was lucky circumstances more-so than anything else since I had max buffs from fire frenzy and Deathspitter
but yeah you can kill like 2 or 3 without buffs and more with it if you have fast reaction time and such in one chastise

Martyrdom’s idea is that you output enough damage to kill everything that by the time the little attritional dmg that you do receive finally wears u down, you have until death + holy revenant to just not care about it
At full (100% of max toughness), you can take 1 non-spillover melee attack without taking health dmg
