Pick a melee weapon you like, refer to our blessing guide in pins to see what works with it, then build around that melee weapon. Zealot's tree is super modular, pick the blitz, coherency, ult, and keystone you want and just see what you have to work with after.
I'd personally recommend avoiding Taxe, Knife, Shredder Autopistol, and Infantry Lasguns, though if you really want to use them go ahead.

Really strong talents we have rn are Second Wind, Duellist, and basically every toughness damage reduction talent. Until Death is great too. Avoid Martyr's Purpose if you go Martyrdom. Fortitude in Fellowship, Voice of Terra, Unremitting, Sainted Gunslinger, Hammer of Faith, Grevious Wounds, The Master's Retribution, left side of Blazing Piety, and Ambuscade are niche/bad/tax nodes.

Best bet is to just check the ordo shop for good curio bases, then upgrade them. Some people will burn through Melk's currency to buy them from his store, it's wasteful but you can get a lot of curios fast out of it.

The maxes are 17% for Toughness, 21% for Health, 3 for Stamina, and 1 for Wound. With toughness and health you can go a point or two under it doesn't matter much, for stamina it's easy to get 3. God pray you don't somehow get a 0 wound curio.
For curio perks you're just looking for DR, +Toughness, +Health, or +Corruption Resist in some applications if you like it. People like Gunner, Sniper, Flamer, and Bomber resistance in roughly that order. +Ordo Dockets is fine too.

Worst case you'd swap the two bottom perks and keep corruption resistance. Best case you can swap +Curio and +Corruption Resistance.
It's up to preference for what you want on perks.

yall tried to block a mauler overhead in your third play session ever in dorktard and got scarred for life
since you asked (you didn't), a couple things about block
unlike VT2, every weapon for every class blocks a full 360* when you hit RMB no added maneouvering needed
but the further from center you absorb a hit, the more stamina it takes to fully soak it without breaking your guard or bleeding through to your health
secondly and a more important followup to that, is
when an enemy drops you to 0% stamina from more than say, 15% or 20
that hit most times doesn't break your guard
the next one will
that isn't the end of it either
thirdly and bigly yuge important
when an enemy breaks your guard, and you have more enemies swinging at you
you can still raise your guard again at 0% stamina
and the next hit will break your guard without bleeding through
if you get your guard raised again before the next attack hits you, you repeat this step ad infinitum
break, raise, get hit, break, raise, get hit
getting your guard up at 0% stamina gives you one standard-size freebie hit, it just jostles you and forces your weapon/shield down
get it back up in time for the next and you just soaked that hit, too
and at least for me, getting hit at full toughness with 0 or next to 0 stamina left
will supercharge my stamina back up again because of the hit my toughness soaks

can get 20-40% stamina instantly on hitting your toughness
(which again, full toughness will soak a single hit of almost any size without health bleedthrough)
(at less than 100% toughness, the % you are missing from 100% is the % of the total damage that bleeds through to your health)
take a hit at 90% toughness and 10% of the damage hits your health
and so on

and instead setting dodge to space and jump to left alt
everybody here remembers when they tried to dodge too quickly and popped up in the air instead
putting jump on left alt is still right there where your thumb is, and you jump so little it's easy to remember the key
and then you never take a dog pounce to the nuts instead of the face

it's different for different weapon animations
a good rule of thumb is right before your camera stops wobbling and comes back to center
you can get your guard back up again before the motion shake but not by much
so that's a good reference
best practice is, look at who's about to hit you
take that moment to see whose weapon is about to come down
and time your block to them landing the swing
yeah this won't give you much in terms of fighting off 10 smol horde
but if the first mauler sucker punches you with the overhead, breaks your guard totally, and dinks your toughness
this will deflect the second mauler from the killblow
bosses actually have almost light attack combos
the plague has a 3 hit, chaos 3 and 4, and demon 4 or 5
during those combos it's actually best to soak with the stamina you have and wait for the big wind up stomp or grab
dodge when you know it's coming, and then backpedal gaining stamina back
look which way they're attacking, and assume 90* either way of that attack will still be in the hitbox
for plague ogryn, the left or right foot they stomp with determines whether you get hit beseide/almost behind them
if the foot facing you goes up, dodge away

start with the slug, he's only got the one thing and then tail/fist slaps to knock you away
then counterintuitively the demon
they only have a single attack combo
and you can learn the timing of each hit and block them completely with idk a blaze sword or something with a lil help but not a defensive-intended weapon
ogres have 2 maybe 3 and chaos have 4 including the grab
you can start by looking for the grab, it comes usually right be3fore the ai switches to another squaddie
so the third or fourth attack he throws at someone
he stands up and takes a step back

it's excellent
it's everything warband was plus, with very little thing that make you frown or feel like ordeals
all the original overmap/on foot battles, the various kingdoms fighting for control
but now you can have multi generational dynasties
take a wife, have kids, they then become who you play when your character is killed or dies
so you can play the same save for several generations
the economy's better on the whole, makes more sense without having to go digging through the help guide
income's factored daily, not weekly, and it's easy to become super super wealthy then spend it all on a single war campaign
