If you want a great beginner weapon, try an XV Eviscerator
And remember that Chastise/Fury of the Faithful allows your ranged weapon to penetrate armour
If you use it, for the next 5 seconds you can kill Crushers with any ranged weapon at all. Even autoguns.

It is better to prio damage in general because that is how the game works

If your weapon deals like 25% base damage to carapace and you get 24% rending you now deal 49% base damage to carapace
And it goes until 100 then scales very very slowly
