It's fine, better against bots. The thing with it (and Laser Cannon) is that it has a horrible feeling against small bugs due to the lack of '1 shots' but against medium enemies it's okish, sadly bug medium enemies have 3 AV so you do 50% damage. Better on bots where the weakspot is 0 AV.

where should I be aiming, how should I be shooting
with explosive weapons, you have the option to shoot 'fleshy' bits instead of just the norm. So like, with bile spewers the glowing sac (on artillery bugs the glowing stripes) you can pop them there. Chargers the butt, the sacs under a Bile Titan. It'll also have extra stagger. If you are doing skid tech on Chargers, explosive weapons seem to ruin the legs (even without the tech, stripped legs get ruined by explosive weapons).
For beam weapons, don't use Dagger. For Scythe, aim for weakspots, so legs w/ medium bugs and heads if you can't hit the legs. Small enemies are going to take a weird-feeling amount of time to kill them due to it being DPS and no burst damage. On bots, hit the weakspot. Scythe is 2 AP so you can weakspot hit Devs and below for full damage. Laser Cannon has the same thing, but better due to higher AP and can kill Hulks to the head. It also does absurd damage to vehicle vents.

i think its second most useful armor type is on infested
