Plasma is a really shitty weapon while leveling Vet but arguably becomes Vet's best weapon by the time you're max level and able to build a full talent tree + max out weapon and optimize breakpoints
Recon is still solid at end game too including into Havoc so if you like Recons you don't have to stop using them

The only Vet weapon that vaguely puts it into mostly shooting and less hybrid status is Helbore right now
And Helbores are also the only Vet ranged weapon worth using on Crushers for Aurics/Maelstroms/Havoc

there's also funny mortis trials shenanigans where you can get a special thing called Full Auto to buff your Exe Stance so you have a bottomless clip and I would recommend any Vet at least try Mortis Trials for the fun of being able to finally rapid-fire a Boltgun without fear into walls of Ogryns

Plasma is a very unique thing to 40k but like in Darktide it sorta feels boring to play
Maybe if they worked in the charged shot to be worth using but they've been struggling to balance that forever
I think charged shot needs a damage buff because you're already eating more risk taking time to charge and spending more ammo
If you can fire 3 hip fire shots with zero risk to explode in the same time a charged shot takes to fire you should be doing more than 3 times the damage of your hip fire with that shot

I use the Mk V because it has a fast fire rate and can skip Weight of Fire comfortably enough to grab Hot Shot instead for the synergy with Withering Fire
I like that middle power for the toughness regen. It's a life saver.
Carapace/Unyielding as perks, Surgical/Hot Shot for blessings
Lets you do some really funny moments deleting entire lines of Shotgunners as they filter through a hallway/door/chokepoint
The cleave gets so silly
Still has enough damage to punch through Carapace easily
Exe Stance/MMF Helbores are just so so good
It feels like cheating getting to kill everything in so few shots for free with Surgical/Shock Trooper tbh
If you want you can swap the point off the 15 stack Marksman's Focus subnode into something else you prefer

the in-game tooltip for Exe Stance does not tell the whole story
it also gives you stun immunity, slow immunity, uninterruptible
a lot of stuff in Darktide isn't explained well in game so there are a bunch of player guides on this discord with good info

you swap based on your loadout and the mission tbh like Smokes are very niche but also very useful in higher difficulty content but most people use Kraks because deleting Crushers and opening up a wall of Bulwarks all stacked on each other is more useful
also Smoke grenades are way better than they seem and mess with enemy AI
pox hounds literally can't pounce someone in smoke
still iffy compared to the other options, but might be a subjective thing
if all players are in the smoke the dogs will just run in circles LOL
yeah smoke pickrate in HK servers are like 90%
I did just watch a video about smoke greande use and they panned the camera to birds eye view to show how confused the AI became lol
when we first got Smoke grenades and Executioner's Stance the talent tree was such that it was a major talent tax trying to get both and it really sucked not really being able to make a good build using both but after like 5 different Vet talent tree reworks the tree is more free and you can get anything together without spending extra points
I like the complexity of builds here. A nice change from SM 2 which is kind of mindless barebones builds.

it's really nice having Exe Stance/Smokes and being able to safely snipe elites/specials from smoke knowing you will not get hit with the silent pox hound from behind and barely have to care about the gunner/reaper spam

whenever I use Infiltrate it mostly feels like I'm playing ambulance and rescuing people or hitting stealth so I can do an objective without needing someone to play babysitter for my Vet to fidget with a device

for higher tier I will consider Executioners stance because that does seem the solution to "I got pinned to a wall and have horde and Crushers or Ragers smashing my face. Help, Im dying lol"
and kinda Gloriana because that first segment of trying to work the machine controls can be tricky depending on your team

it just makes it easier to force progression on objectives
Exe stance can be up for a long time if you take the node with ranged enemies being marked. That 10% toughness regen goes insane even when slashing through crowds of them
and killing ranged asap helps the team too
Constant FOV (make exe stance not shrink ur FOV)
Gas outlines (make enemies outline not be disabled if ur inside gas)
interesting use and yeah I have had missions already where it was a complete shit show to try to do the objective with constant waves of enemies.

I know it feels weird to dodge into the arm but it's the way to escape the grab consistently

So if u get hit by melee with 100% toughness u don’t take health damage

But at 99% toughness, 1% of the attack’s damage will be dealt to health
Half health full toughness = ur fine if u play well
Full health half toughness = you’re about to be fucked
so low toughness is just as bad as no armor in SM 2

the only weapon that is awful to roll in the Vet arsenal is Plasma

@tall torrent how do you feel about the combat shotgun? It feels fun enough to use but not sure if the small clip and long reload (even if you can shoot immedately whatever you've loaded) are too big a downside at harder difficulties.

I just started the game but I like how missions are even shorter then SM 2 missions and somehow more hectic in a very short window of time lol
I find it funny that DT is a way bigger power fantasy than SM 2

I asked what the best generalist weapon for zealot was and a I got a bunch of just use Relic Blade lol

some people make builds specifically to kill daemonhosts and then run into matchmaking to hunt them down for fun like one time I matched with randoms and one was a Hive Scum named Dh-feet-sniffer or something and he would play like normal with the team until he noticed a Daemonhost, sprint over before anyone else could do anything and kill it instantly. Daemonhost wakes up at 50% HP and before it can attack once it is dead. That guy said "feet secured" and then left the game
for general purpose, yeah you can't beat relic blade

Power Sword is really really strong
A warning though
It needs certain talents to make it feel good
It's a very slow weapon with a small dodge distance/slow dodge speed
It also has godawful mobility
Then some are as bland as Arbites
You want Trench Fighter and Weapon Specialist to help with that
dodge speed is normal
thankfully the talents needed to boost psword are ones you want to get anyways
just short dodge distance
combat axe is kind of fun if you can one shot kill on head hit
but it is a weapon that demands better melee fundamentals than most
its just amusing to see heads constantly exploding
So you need to actually get good at melee
Rashad Combat Axe is probably one of the strongest weapons in the game too

if you're new and leveling, I'd personally suggest agri combat shotgun
their talent tree explanations and weapons are in the same guide

maniac impact ADM buff (so it can stagger dreg ragers by itself)
heavy sweep cleave distribution dmg buff
activated light & heavy attack carapace ADM buff

u just slash ur own dps significantly by taking chorus

One tip I got was that the push is 360. So if you hear the pox bomber being about to blow up, just push even if you dont see it. it actually saved me in one game lol
do not get grabbed
or play Arbites with dog to nullify the grab attack
honestly it's funny how many threats the dog neutralizes
I think only trappers can truly threaten an Arbites player
and teammates of course because barrels
