Honestly the gun is strong with its base stats perks and blessings. You can lean into MMF if you want but I like to use it if I'm running a lower mobility melee to help give me breathing room and effectively kill gunners without too much ranged investment.

This. Also try to position yourself to have as much mass as possible in front of your barrel. With manstopper and flechette you will obliterate everything that isnt carapace or monstrosity.

the general flow is like
smack horde a few times -> shoot boomstick -> repeat
as long as you kill at least one enemy in melee, you get a free boomstick shot
if you kill three before switching it is guaranteed to crit
so ideally you never reload and fire free, massively boosted cleaving-power, bleed-on-hit buckshot down the hallway until theres nothing left

its a little wonky compared to more standard vet fare but once you get into the groove it is very fun

iirc it only now affects melee and dots

might require melee to be in hand too, but not sure
