Usually to differentiate the older HEI to the newer projectile, with the main differences being the hardened body to increase the penetration and fragmentation.
I have one of the 20mm SAP-HEI. It has aluminum tip just like the HEI, but the heavier body mass increases the penetration.

that was this guy's suggestion and it's not bad but keep in mind that rolling steel is kind of hard, you can't rely on your teammates to cover you especially on malice, tons of enemies kinda spawn since it's basically constant hordes, and it ends with a guaranteed boss

a lot of people suggest rolling steel for those types of penances but I dunno, I'd rather speedrun a 'real' mission since they can often be safer since you have more space to move around etc, and if you are stuck with bots only on rolling steel you have to do the power cells yourself AND the hacking yourself... which is not the greatest
killing a captain without taking any chip damage too might be tricky, but I dunno, if you have other people who aren't idiots it might be okay

smoke grenades disable the special attacks of various specials and also cause ranged units from being able to target you, they can still shoot, but they can't target you
this might sound like who cares on most difficulties but it's quite useful on havoc
on high difficulties theres so much shit shooting at you that its good to hide from them. Lower, really no purpose

Okay. You have threat points, from 0 to 20. A player already targeted adds 10 effective points to this.

When you kill an enemy with ranged damage, you add a certain number of threat points to this. When you suppress an enemy(again with ranged damage), you add double the points you would get from killing them.

These decay over time at a... unknown amount tbh my brain zonked out trying to make sense of that bit of the code.
This is likely why people (incorrectly) believe that Ogryn has some sort of innate taunt-like ability or gets targeted more often. Their guns are just REALLY LOUD and do A TON of suppression, so they can max their threat out very fast by shooting.

There's basically three lanes: Main, left, and right. Main is probably where the main horde is coming from. Left and right tend to be for specialists and stuff. This is not really a firm definiton, and could change instantly in a dight.
yeah I have noted specific behaviour in at least hounds and trappers, they seem to spawn more frequently or on demand if a player is lagging behind or is separated in some capacity and then they specifically aim for that loner and try to jump/trap them
I know cuz I often lag behind just to vacuum up missed plasteel/diamantine (HAPPENS ALL THE TIME) and then I have to deal with one trapper or hound
probably means optimal squad formation is to have one person focusing on the front, two people focusing on each of the two side lanes, while the fourth person takes over for someone if they're temporarily indisposed like reloading
Can confirm, I occasion hang back in the back line a littles away sniping and I'll hear a trapper running up behind me

They furthermore have squad AIs. Squad AI basically takes over when they're not 'engaged in combat', aka they don't see the enemy. This mostly makes them move in formation and not scatter too much. I do know darktide DOES have these squad AIs, you can see them in infested hordes where they can move almost mechanically so when they're far enough away from a player before they explode like a clown car when they see you.

This is applied to every 'group' of helldivers on the battlefield. A group is defined as all the helldivers that can be defined by a circle of a certain radius.
The timer goes down if there are more helldivers in a squad, which doesn't fully compensate for there only being one patrol for potentially 4 helldivers.

it also goes down when you complete stuff on the map, and goes down a LOT once the extraction shuttle is called.
I was following the 'development' of discoveries for that during the early month or so of helldivers 2 launch and yeah it sounds scuffed

patrol squad AI is also simple. They spawn in that outside ring. They move to the location you were at when they spawned. And then if they didn't find you they move back out to despawn.
ANYWAY. Darktide spawns AFAIK are different? They basically spawn 'events' that consist of several different enemy squads, between low, medium and high off memory.

Melee uses the slot system which is different. Ranged(and disablers) basically have an attack limit which resets every so often.
