So generally speaking you want to have an "all-around" build, unless queue with specific other people or are a badass. What I mean is have an answer to horde, crushers, ragers, etc. that you feel confident with. As you get more experienced you'll get better at dodging, blocking, push attacks, how to funnel the enemies, etc. The difficulty range in this game really ramps up. Later on you'll get 6+ crusher ("armor") running at you at the same time while a monstrosity is chasing and there's 100 horde. Do you have a favorite melee weapon? Melee is more important than range, even on veteran. What are you using now?

I distinctly remember being one of 3 Psykers (all of us using staves) getting put with a Gunlugger Ogryn running one of the Twin Stubbers and he ate so good all throughout that map
