Just be aware that MG12 is still not good even with this kind of set-up

my zealot teammate who seems to be built to fight hordes has a chainaxe
he is only using light attacks

also he just hipfired his bolter at a poxburster running directly at him and missed every shot
and now he just turned and ran when the ogryn who was also awful went down and got killed by a single poxwalker who was walking as fast as him
im so embarrassed i died before they did
our ogryn was doing some wacky thing where he pushed a bunch of enemies to activate the push taunt and then planted his shield
and then he would get killed by flamers and gunners from behind
I ran a damnation match with my buddy (their first damnation) and there was a veteran in there that, in this order:
- threw down a health kit (at half health, no one else was wounded at all)
- completely ignored it and hit our only medicae shot
- INSTANTLY, and I kid you not, INSTANTLY died the moment he got in melee with a chaos spawn (it chucked him off the map)

This further reinforces my theory that at least 50% of darktide players play the game using their feet on the controller or keyboard instead of their hands.
Also had one the other day die in that one mission in the desert you have to shut off the broadcasts on. He didn't wait for the fan to stop spinning, stepped in it, died, and instantly dc'd.

the new one is just for lightspamming. simple to use with fast horde clear
light has more horizontal swings and heavys are all overheads
does more damage with special heavy as well
instead of the lunge forward thing it had it now has a turn into pickaxe button that deals high damage to singular target and goes through carapace
mk7 gets the original shovi heavy but slower special heavy
mk3 has way faster special heavy

Basically, you hit the bell in the Karnak Twins mission, then jump off to your death. Your 3 teammates then teleport and kill the Twins.
It's unbelievably easy.
No fuss, no muss, penance done and dusted.
i haven't really actively worked for any penances but the auric titles

That node is really only good if you're hitting a specific breakpoint. Bring it Down is a much better node that's right next to it

10% rending just isn't much at all. Rending does nothing to infested & unarmored, so it's not really comparable to flat extra damage.
Some weapons don't really need extra rending like chainaxes or the special on new shovels.
And the main thing you want rending for is Crushers anyway, and bring it down is a much larger bonus damage to that enemy
If you really want rending for use with an autogun or something, Onslaught in the right tree is a much better talent
And it also works with melee and ranged
Chord has an awful lot of breakpoints determined by that rending or some other small bump to damage xd
How do you get those stats?
10 percent rending is a little weak but it's much more convenient nodewise than onslaught on the right

i mean the real answer for rending is "it super depends"
the only way to know for sure is to go in the psyk and click nodes on and off as you kill stuff
even if you and another person are using the same kind of weapon (like both of you using Helbore Mk II) your breakpoints will always be slightly different to someone else's based off your weapons stats, perks and blessings vs the other person's stats, perks and blessings
A weapon with 70% stopping power and 80% damage will be different to a weapon with 80% stopping power and 70% damage
there's also the rest of your tree

there are two nodes for +5% ranged damage each

broadly we can say that 10% rending =/= 20% bring it down, that's about it

They don't really need it. The ADM on the folded hit is already very high

if you dont care about not losing your streak remove that and get the tagging node below
free 20% damage against anything you mark is really powerful even if i never use it

the rending does decent damage to flak targets also(against flak its like 90% effectiveness compared to +15% elite damage, and it works on other enemies just than elites, like normal grunts or special with flak)
Since I also take Superiorty Complex
it stacks so i went with both

If you don't anim cancel you have no bonus, and if you fuck it up that's worse than doing nothing sometimes
so you get out of it what you put into it
but pretty much every gun can be reload canceled, some are much less worth executing than others

and sprinting is the quickest way to shortcut between one phase to the next
i know how it works on my plasma, though i dont sprint to cancel and i just swap weapons to cancel it
and the easiest indicator to follow is your ammo count
if it goes from # to 0, sprint
when it goes from 0 to #, sprint
BAG has three stages, mag out, mag in, cock
i only do it to plasma and its quite unnessesary cause yknow

mag out to mag in is the biggest leap
mag in to cock is not worth trying to skip
and then skip the cock anim as soon as it plays the sfx
can get the gun up and ready in about 2.4-5s from its 3.2s reload speed
more importantly to me tbh is just knowing reloads are tiered and being more deliberate about playing into them
I mean the animation cancel on plasma is small when I'm thinking on it
if you run out of ammo, you can just press R. as long as you get through a part of the reload, its fine
you switch off whenever you want and back whenever you can
it will progress
XStance is an exception since yeah, you cant maintain it if you swap
but outside of that (so, all other times), it's something you should be taking advantage of

Reciprocity asks u to ditch the usual horde control methods of “killing everything efficiently” in favour of setting up dodges to get better crit value depending on the weapons you have
Piety has the benefit of being very consistent and your teammates can keep it topped off for you
Reci has the benefit of being a regular talent and not a keystone
dont get me wrong piety is good
problem is the big nodes under melee tree in vet sometimes seem to outperform that of a zealot
Whereas CQKZ in some missions is up quite literally 90% the time during fights
nah man you just mash dodge all the time and ride the wave
Idk why you would waste dodge count when you don’t need to, but ig that’s playstyle difference
it's just there giving you comfortable back rubs, don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain
as long as you're in melee range you're bound to dodge
like give that talent to zealot and they'd go nuts

yea like idk where this notion of having to be deliberate to set up reci comes from
yeah maybe, it's active more often than not for me, even if it's not at 5 stacks it's doing its part
I’d consider 10% melee dmg, agile engagement and desperado to be very strong picks for melee veteran but a lot of other things aren’t as amazing as they sound
you just do what you normally do, dont overthink it
i mean some dont dodge at all cough cough powersword
if you find its rarely up from your regular gameplay then yeah it aint the blessing for your current build

its not amazing yea i'd agree, but still quite decent picks imho
some weps have exceptional area control so enemies arent getting attacks off for you to dodge
that's an instance where reciprocity sucks
but tac axe? knife? incredible
Melee attack speed really bring up the game
Yea tac axe & knife are just reciprocity go-to
yeah it's not super great with like combat axe where you can just mash
or you have shitty dodge distance so you have to dodgeslide just to dodge shit
I wouldn’t play reciprocity on stuff like Rashad / PS6
and one dodge every 8 seconds to keep it stacked up is just
like comically generous
you could cut that down by half tbh
Especially considering CQKZ actually helps Rashad with a breakpoint or two
and it wouldnt change my opinion or use of it
you can proc full bonus by dodging out from a horde anyway p sure
but crits are one of the most powerful basic boosts after pure damage stacking since it does so much
5 swings dodged as far as the games concerned
especially if your weapon has armor piercing
It can stack multiple times (from multiple attacks) in one dodge but there’s an internal cooldown between dodges that can activate it (same cooldown as dodge cooldown)
also i wouldnt really take crits on rashad cause brutal momentum sucks with it
yeah its just smaller than the dodge toughness one
i have gotten three out of a single dodge

It’s very funny that thunder hammer takes the most investment & conditional activations to be able to 1 shot crushers without FotF while XV evicerator and Chainaxe can just do it casually
thunder hammer is one bonk meanwhile chain weapon go RRRRRRR for a period of time 
Crucis has a self-stun that’s prob worse than chain weapons doing their rev attacks
both put u in a bad situation due to special button havin drawback function

would be funny to have a chainaxe fast as a blender or the thunder hammers with no kickback after landin blows but then it'd just be a "win button" of a melee

Crucis’ self-stun prevents u from dodging or blocking

laspistol and helbore actually aren't immune to suppression
they do get extra ADS sway when suppressed
it's generally very minimal though
shotgun, autopistol and plasma are completely unaffected by suppression
braced autoguns have sudden spread expansion when suppressed
headhunter & infantry autoguns have noticeably increased ADS sway when suppressed
infantry lasguns gain tremendous ADS sway when suppressed

If you stack crit and run Shock Trooper it makes them even sillier for ignoring ammo concerns
You can kinda ignore Surv Aura on the Vraks VII Headhunter Autogun too in my experience
As long as you're not spamming shots and being more controlled/precise you can make the bullets last surprisingly effectively through a match

and sometimes I swap the point off Demo Team into Enhanced Target Priority

and a lot of the time they're mainly just there to underhand lob on approach to a downed team mate to get off a rescue

Nah I'm used to it on other builds like my Cadian set up using Kantrael Infantry Lasguns and my Catachan set up going all in on melee
I know how grenade regen feels and how it feels without
I have learned to live without it, and can appreciate a build with it too
It's just a different playstyle
It feels almost like you're encouraged to just drop nades at random just to keep the demo stockpile timer ticking
otherwise it's wasted value if you spend multiple minutes at a time not dropping anything
even sillier if you double up on stockpile and team for all the nade regen, and then end up barely using them LOL

like I could drop a nade into a group of poxwalkers just so I know the timer is ticking on nade regen and I know I have extra in reserve
or I can just ignore that and use them for emergencies like creating distance when a pack of ragers/maulers suddenly round the corner and down a team mate
without tinkerer you need 2 shredders to clear a poxwalker horde anyway
and with tinkerer you need to let them bleed out
just doesn't feel worth most times unless you're lobbing grenades into very large packs of elites and then demo team becomes very attractive
but a lot of the time I'm ignoring stockpile entirely
just feels like another clock in my brain telling me to do something or the talent is being wasted
plus if you're not going into fire team aura you're eating a 2 point tax to cross into middle to get stockpile
1 to move from left/right into center, 1 more to get stockpile
I mostly just get stockpile on my Catachan build because I'm already moving into fire team from krak/tinkerer (because I love the theme of Catachan Guard seeing monstrosities and pulling out a melee weapon and grenade to tear it apart ezpz)
The only nade regen I have on my knife build is Field Improv but that's more for my Ogryn and Zealot buddies who rock the really primo nades.

Call me insane but I think Grenade Tinkerer with smokes is unironically good
And you regen smoke every 60 seconds. So basically you can spend half the map in a smoke grenade

That said, I still think shredder is best grenade

Smoke is definitely underrated. But it fills a niche that is already covered if you have a Psker on the team.

It's a Psyker dome that can't be broken and in high difficulty content with lots of gunners, reapers and other ranged enemies firing off the bubble does get popped
The bubble is nice until the AI director opens up a box of "Oops All Gunners" and the bubble is shredded cheese before the squad can clear them all out

Also the uptime on smoke grenades is way beyond what Psyker dome could ever dream of doing
Smoke grenades do hard counter the box of gunners, though.
With literally just tinkerer and demo stockpile you can get 2 minutes and 30 seconds of constant smoke in an area, and then 30 seconds later, get another 30 seconds of smoke
It's like saying Infiltrate isn't worth looking at because Shroud exists on Zealot
It doesn't make any sense trying to talk down your own kit vs someone else's because they're coming from different contexts and do different things when you look at the nitty gritty
Psyker dome had no effect on a pack of pox hounds
Smoke grenades turn them stupid
They do different things and are both useful in different respects even if they can perform a similar role in one aspect
And you can't rely on a Psyker with dome existing in quickplay
But you can, as a Vet, ensure you have smoke cloud whenever you want by picking it
vacate over a large area like a squid to confuse your enemies
Same goes for Dome also, Mutants will still charge your ass in smoke, Dome makes them comically thud their head against a brick wall
therefore smoke grenades have effect on me
The only problem with smoke grenades is that they require someone who actually knows how to use them and a lot of Vets eat hot chip, lie and throw either shredder frags or krak so they have no idea what smoke grenades are even capable of

It's just easier to no thoughts head empty grab shredder or krak because they don't require you to learn how they work
