id say vet is a pretty versatile class considering whats possible with it builds wise, i dont really know what the other classes are also capable of but vet to me seems on top with most engagements
I will say that my last Auric Maelstrom deathless penance run mission was completed in a team of 4 Vets.
Vets are truly versatile, tool of all trades kind.
Also having 2 VoCs means you can almost cheese deathless runs if you are competent players.
(You still have to watch out for ambushing burster trains)

- possibly regen nades when your team kill specials.
- your GL could end up shooting extra nades.
- you will get nades from ammo boxes if you/a fellow Vet took that upgrade.
- possibly shoot an extra nade.
- upgrade nades for more damage and radius

You need Unarmoured perk to meet the Dreg Gunner breakpoint and that perk is basically mandatory given how much better it makes clearing rooms of gunners
You also want Weight of Fire and Surgical
Infernus is bad for the Helbores imo
A lot of the time I feel like I'd rather have AIAG over CIAG
Other perk can be Maniac for the Flamer breakpoint or Crusher for better Crusher kills

Kantrael XII except with a really good bayonet strike, the ability to penetrate armour, better boss DPS and better crit rate through Surgical. Kantrael XII Headhunter just doesn't compare to how much more consistent crits are with Helbore Mk II Surgical imo
Only downside is slower swap speed and that's barely a downside
Bayonet can stagger and kill Ragers, one tap hound heads with a single stab and can thrust Muties down very fast
Very few times you even need to swap melee with a Mk II if you're really good with the bayonet
is helbore 2 better than the 1? i thought i'd like it more because i like higher dmg/slower shooting speed for long range build more often than not

Yes but only if you get a godroll Mk II. If you're missing the right perks, blessings and/or have a lower stat roll on Damage, Stopping Power or Charge Rate (sub 60 on any imo) then it's going to be worse than even a mediocre rolled Mk I

Keep the Mk I because the Mk II requires the right stats, perks and blessings to be better
pity on the charge rate on this one because it looks basically perfect apart from the charge rate

But the bayonet swing is awful compared to the Mk I and the Mk II so you feel the sting of the slow swap speed
With the Mk III you'll rely on your melee weapon a lot more because the bayonet swing is bad
back to grinding marksman's penance
HB2 has the benefit of getting away w/o the charge speed blessing with good enough charge speed stat. Really more depends on your preference of shot pacing with the HB1 vs HB2
Helbore Mk II with Weight of Fire and good charge rate gets pretty funny in matches though
I remember saving a Psyker from a Daemonhost with my Mk II once by sheer DPS pumping shots into the Daemonhost face and squeezed out a kill just before the Psyker got their soul sucked out
It's still good. It's just that HBs don't exactly have the best blessing pool. It's just the 1 that can live w/o it

Smokes are good for disrupting AI that has a lock on mechanic to strike. I've seen Pox Hounds literally run in circles and never pounce while the squad is in a smoke cloud letting them be free kills
I've heard it also messes with Mauler overheads, Flamers and Muties but I haven't seen smoke mess with them yet to verify it personally
Also yeah very food for creating safety from Gunners, Shotgunners, Reapers, Snipers, and Non-Elite Shooters

i had some pox flamers stand there and kick the smoke instead of trying to use their flamers

30 sec duration, 3 smoke grenades chained back to back and the 1 min nade regen talent lets you have a VERY LONG smoke cloud in place
1st nade: 30 sec (2 reserve)
2nd nade: 1 min (+1 nade, 2 reserve)
3rd nade: 1 min 30 (1 reserve)
4th nade: 2 min (+1 nade, 1 reserve)
5th nade: 2 min 30 sec (finally out of nades, with a new one available in another 30 sec)
You can almost have a full 3 minutes of uninterrupted smoke in one spot LMFAO
Compare that to Psyker shield duration
Empty a room of spread ranged enemies with 2 shredders?
If they're grouped sure
Shredders are fantastic for anti-horde and making space
a spread out an entrenched room of gunners is definitely going to favor smokes more than shredders
But if you can throw 2 back to back shredders and wipe an entire room of shooters then you got really lucky and caught them at a chokepoint
however, one could argue you could prevent such a scenario by wiping the patrol before they take cover
Shredders are better for taking out poxwalkers/groaners and all the melee elites mixed in with them like the ragers and maulers
lots of variables, but in general shredders are more useful in more situations than smokes are
But Smoke niche is anti-ranged and turning dogs, flamers, snipers and really any ranged enemy dumb
Different weapons for different purposes
I think most people would agree frags are the most useful nade overall, but krak and smoke both have their purposes
Generally disablers and melee elites are the run enders for pugs in Damnation+ in my experience so Shredder counters that better
But smokes are very, very good for their purpose
they have a purpose, but their function is generally far less useful than 2 shredders
especially if you have a weapon with uncanny strikes, since that affects grenade damage
Shredders are very funny and a good generalist Grenade to take
Does smoke block when you stand in it, or just enemies that are standing in it
Like Voice of Command. Just always useful in every situation. Versatile. Safe
both, it's essentialy a psyker dome
But unlike Voice of Command I actually like Shredder Grenades

It blocks enemy line of sight in both cases
If you throw the smoke at enemies they will be forced out of the smoke and run to try to get new angles, stopping their fire and preventing any further fire from the direction of the smoke cloud
If you drop it at your feet ranged enemies will stop tracking you for shots and a lot of them will either try to close to melee range or they'll blind fire in one direction making their shots braindead to avoid
Snipers will cease fire entirely
Reapers will attempt to reposition
Shotgunners will close to melee
Hounds stop pouncing and just bark while standing still or running back and forth
Flamers refuse to light things on fire

i kept getting fired at like 30% of the time i was getting my smoke penance
Gunners and non-elite shooters will often continue to shoot depending on distance tbh
Tracking stops but the stream continues firing in that singular straight line
So if you don't move you still get shot unless it bugged out
If smokes put out fires
Or had an upgrade with tinker that highlighted enemies through it
It'd be perfect
I'd love if you could put out bomber fires or flamer fires with it
Could you imagine if it temporarily cleared an area of pox gas??
It'd be so good on the pox missions where the gas is EVERYWHERE
Plus fun counterplay against tox bombers if you see a crusher/mauler squad rolling up and decide it is better to drop the smoke to clear the pox gas than deal with pox buffed +40% move speed, +40% damage resist, +2.5Ć hit mass Crushers/Maulers
set up a smoke tunnel to get through a room

That's a painful set of perks and blessings. You absolutely need to get rid of Falter because it is a useless blessing. Grab Surgical instead. Reload speed is better than groaner/poxwalkers. Get Unarmoured perk. Unfortunate that it ended that way because the stat roll is beautiful but the perk/blessing roll is awful
Give them 15 second duration and give them a side benefit with tinker
Combat stim smokes
Both the 7% reload and 10% groaner/poxwalker perks are some of the worst you can get but at least the reload speed helps slightly

Very good for Medic builds focused around Plasma and Laspistol since both have blessings that help spread toughness regen to the team more efficiently than other weapons can
I think Plasma has better toughness regen but less ammo efficiency than Laspistol for Medic builds
There's a weird argument to be made for putting a point into Charismatic for quickplay pugs since a lot of people even in Damnation tend to stray out of Coherency range often and the extra radius helps maintain toughness regen to the squad easier
But only with Medic focused team toughness regen builds imo
So if something restores toughness but your at max born leader still procs? Cool.
Otherwise it's not worth the point into Charismatic for the +50% coherency radius range
Yeah! Used in combination with Voice of Command, Reassuringly Accurate on Laspistol, Confirmed Kill, Covering Fire and Exhilarating Takedown you can end up with a surprisingly effective teamwide toughness generator build

Glory Hunter is 30% toughness while Reassuringly Accurate is 16% so I stack more toughness talents to compensate
To clarify Reassuringly Accurate only restores toughness on a critical hit kill but this is much easier and more common to achieve. Elites are pretty common but being able to restore toughness on elites, specials and everything else feels better for general toughness squad regen
For Plasma or Boltgun Medic builds they no longer have the ammo econ to spray shots nearly as freely as a Laspistol rocking crit stacking and Shock Trooper

I don't really like Ghost tbh. I know it is valuable but like being immune to ranged shots on a weapon with built in suppression immunity and with all the toughness and toughness damage reduction Vet has feels redundant on anything other than the most chaotic moments with lots and lots of shooters, no cover and weapons with bad mobility for dodges. Laspistols have surprisingly mobility and I am a dodge fiend so I love doing clown dance dodging while shooting. It's why I tend to leave Ghost at the door and grab either Dum Dum/Infernus for Mk II for a Damage build or Dum Dum/Reassuringly Accurate for a Medic build
I can see Ghost being invaluable for vent purge sniper gauntlet
Outside of that I don't really feel it helps my playstyle of trying to be extra mobile with dodging, kiting and baiting enemies into better positions
Yeah Elites are all over High Intensity Damnation and Auric Damnation High Intensity so I'm not saying the Plasma with Glory Hunter is bad, just that despite being able to restore bigger chunks of toughness it also has worse ammo econ so those shots are also less consistent
Different medic builds
Like a Holy Paladin in WoW vs a Resto Druid. One does big bursty but expensive healing. The other is doing smaller chunks of healing at near all times
I tend to main healer in MMOs I play
Also the weird way I look at Ghost is: if I am fine without it on other weapons, why would I need or want it on a Laspistol when trying to decide between dropping damage (Infernus/Dum Dum) or toughness regen (Reassuringly Accurate)
Plus the biggest threats tend to be disablers/melee elites for run enders in quickplay pugs
For ranged stuff it's usually enough to fall back to somewhere with cover or an angle where the shooters at least have to run closer/reposition before they can resume shooting
Buy time to clear disablers and melee high priority threats then clear ranged
It puts you in a dodge state for ranged attacks which means you are benefitting from dnd every time you are shot with no effort.
It's extremely good for leveraging deadshot/dnd while not requiring as nauseating a playstyle
Also the fact that not taking toughness damage from those ranged attacks is much better than having to take it and heal it (it's also prone to getting kills poached).

That's pretty good synergy with Duck and Dive but my Weapon Specialist Medic build weirdly doesn't grab that because I use Chainsword or Chainaxe with my Medic build and Trench Fighter, Desperado and Reciprocity end up being talents I value more
I like saving the talent points for more toughness generation like Covering Fire as an example
I play less like a backline shooter and more like a hybrid constantly weaving in and out of melee
Chainaxe in particular will feel awful without Trench Fighter
But it also very solidly covers anti-armour and anti-boss for me

I'm finally free from work so I can explain a bit before I begin my drive home
but you have to spec into killing ogryns and small ranged enemies
Desperado does not give melee attack speed, just helps with melee damage and finesse which pairs really well with Chainsword or helps make the Chainaxe bite harder into boss or Crusher faces.
The melee attack speed boosts come from Trench Fighter (+10% melee attack speed) and Weapon Specialist when you activate melee specialist after a ranged kill
Together they turn the Chainsword into whirlwind blender of death for clearing chaff or help make the Chainaxe fast enough to feel much, much better as a tool to clear hordes on top of just better swing speeds for dealing with elites, specials and bosses with faster times to strike
Reciprocity is increased crit chance on dodge
Between Reciprocity, Deadshot and the base crit chance Vet has + Laspistol crit it ends up being pretty effective for crit chance. I alternate often between hip fire and aim down sights depending on if I want to force more crits during tense moments or save Stam
There's also a talent node as part of Weapon Specialist that grants toughness restore on Weapon swap when activating either melee specialist or ranged specialist and since I play as a hyper mobile hybrid weaving between melee and ranged to adapt to threats it ends up just naturally adding more toughness regen to me and my squad without me thinking about it

Tbh I am considering trying either that Marksman's Focus + Tunnel Vision with Out for Blood for general toughness regen stacking or going down middle tree for Focus Target + Target Down for 5% Stam and Toughness restored per stack on kill

It makes for a very funny thing to watch for quickplay pugs that die and end up watching me run in circles kiting everything until either I die or everything else does and I clutch out to the next checkpoint to revive everyone
I agree but I think it's also really just there as an option to separate sharing highlighted target sight with the team and sharing ranged targets
I remember a LOT of people would complain about an entire room full of non-elite shooter trash being highlighted all at once and making specials/elites harder to see

you can swap the point out of Charismatic and into Superiority Complex or even Duck and Dive if you prefer tbh
Charismatic is just useful for me since pugs tend to wander a lot more than when I play with friends
I like Kraks with this because Laspistol/Chainsword lacks Crusher kill potential so it offsets that a lot
this also works with Chainaxe and lets me pull off some insane clutch saves on allies who trigger the Daemonhost
You can use Kraks explosion/stagger on Daemonhosts to stunlock and shred them down fast with the Chainaxe
just requires proper timing to do and some good rev'd Chainaxe biting into a Daemonhost face
you want to alternate krak + chainaxe rev into a second cycle of krak + chainaxe rev to keep the Daemonhost staggered if you want to use the Chainaxe for a Daemonhost kill
you could also swap the talent off of Charismatic to grab Tinkerer to double down on boss kill potential and make it effective for killing Bulwarks but I love revving a Chainaxe or Chainsword into a Bulwark head or back
Chainsword has some funny thing where crit damage isn't falling off on targets you hit with cleave so I run Rampage + Shred and go full on blender mode through trash

it's alright. volatile is kinda shit since normal people don't usually uses charge. Generally people will go Gets Hot + (Blaze Away or Gloryhunter). Normal perk setup is Elite damage + something else I forgot.

I think crit chance is for bodyshot breakpoints in case you miss and boss dps, but I don't know plasma well enough to say that for sure. It takes 3 non critical uncharged headshots to kill Crushers on Damnation and I'm assuming crits + blaze away might knock that number down, but someone who actually uses plasma often should verify this
I charge up my shots often for the big ones tho. Guaranteed oneshot. Then again, I'll try to get one with the combination you recommended :))

Also I believe you're right but the extra crit chance + finesse damage is extra damage. Why throw a rev'd chainaxe heavy into the Daemonhost leg or chest if you can squeeze out more damage through Desperado and a well aimed chainaxe to the jaw?
With a Daemonhost every bit of damage is important, every second counts
too slow and whoever woke it up is going to go
also since I'm swinging down toward Trench Fighter and Weapon Specialist it makes the most sense to grab
Onslaught isn't worth for Laspistol imo
Duck and Dive is nice but for Chainaxe you really want both Trench Fighter's 10% melee attack speed boost and the melee attack speed boost from Weapon Specialist when melee specialist procs
playing without the melee attack speed leaves the weapon too slow to use comfortably as an anti-horde tool imo
if it has really meh finesse and going for +finesse doesn't send you over major breakpoints I don't see any reason to go for that

If I kill it before they finish dealing with their problem, great. But Iām not getting wiped by a single crusher in the back line because nobody pinged it
I will say tho, some folks around launch time had bound Ping and Fire to the same key so having vets in a match was fucking terrible
tbh as long as your not M1 spam pinging I dont really care, even if your gonna kill something fast, pinging can help you line up aim at long range, deal more damage too it, and thus kill it faster, if your using focus target, or it can, ya know, let your team know where it is in case you fail to kill it or if its a sniper or disabler so your team can dodge
