You might be better off running weapons specialist and always prepared rather than investing into all of the reload rate. You'll be close anyways, just keep on swapping between melee and shotty and you'll be pretty much keeping the mag full for the most, at least long enough so you aren't reloading mid combat I guess.

I personally run riposte and flesh tearer on my knives, but you can always go for blessing that improve the instantaneous damage as well. Its just that with this attack rate plus crit rate with some of vets skills you'll pretty much just smash through targets like there is nothing with the blessings I mentioned. Personal experience and preference though.

So I'm running now 2x toughness curios + 1x HP, all of them with 5% Toughness, 5% Health & 20% Gunners resistance.

My main is a zealot. Being said that, I noticed that the veteran can also be very, very tanky as well. Just did a maelstrom and barely my toughness got halfway down. I'm surprised because I thought the veteran was made of wet paper and not even close.

Haven't experienced a heavy pressure moment yet, but that is probably because I positioned myself different. On my zealot I just charge, kill everything and that's it. With the vet I have to watch my back first and keep some distance (although the shovel does a fine work at melee too)

Vet has the benefit of Iron Will and several toughness replenish on kill nodes. 1st middle also increase DR in coherency. On top of a panic VoC. Vet toughness is no joke. With catch a breath, you'll always have toughness regen when counter shooting gunner rooms
