Darktide is an interesting game since you can make pretty much anything work, so I feel that the meta here isn't purely about what does the most damage, but moreso what requires the minimum amount of play to get you through Auric Maelstrom.
Just the other day I saw a gunpsyker solo-clutch our Auric Maelstrom pulling some dirty, filthy kills with a laspistol I never thought possible. And I often hear the psykers players mention that gunpsyker is seriously slept on right now. But nobody complains because it's really hard to play a broken gunpsyker in the first place.
Plasma/revolver, on the other hand, aren't just broken for their stupid amounts of all-around damage, they're also literally point-and-click.

It's not the build that's the issue at all. The is for a certain kind of theorycrafter who justifies deliberately ignoring great defensive talents/blessings by saying "I don't get hit so it doesn't matter," only to learn that they insta-leave missions on their first down because "well if people are going down at all then the mission is already lost anyway."
I'm not a min-maxer, I'm a max-maxer. I love making stupid cheesy builds with glaring weakpoints I need to play around, they're super fun for me. It's only a specific argumentation style I take umbrage with.

I write way too much as it is so I tried to keep it shorter. The implication was that this arbitrary "aura bot" was sticking in coherency and not doing anything else -- so they weren't using ammo, weren't rushing off and triggering spawns, weren't going down and needing rescue, and otherwise weren't taking resources/time from the team. Just giving and taking absolutely a big fat zilch, apart from coherency buffs.
But also, it was merely supposed to be a contrived situation to emphasise my point. Ultimately, I believe that the only stat that truly matters is whether you can consistently finish missions in quickplay. "How much a player contributed" is really difficult to define anyway, so I prefer to keep it simple: "just don't suck." Don't be so heavy that your teammates die carrying you, and I don't really mind if you spend most of the time hunting for plasteel.
