A lot of the problem I have with films focusing on men with severe social issues is that it usually just rounds back to some really defeatist shit about male loneliness.

You take that with the fact that one of the biggest blows to the mc was realizing the ai wasn't at all tailored to him like he thought brings up a sort of ick to me.

On one hand, yes, dudes like that and any human dealing with that level of alienation will turn to anything that gives a sliver of human interaction. But the whole film from what I can remember felt more about some kind of right to companionship, even an artificially commercialized one, than a film about understanding how shit keeps people pushed away from the interaction they crave.
